Drove it in manual mode for the first time, and the last. Flipping awkward changing gears going around a roundabout, unless you have extra bendy flexible arms.

You should change before or after the turning manoeuvre not during it...

Returned from a trip to Bath, cruise set to 80mph for M4 (72mph real speed) managed 30mpg so V8 proving good value.

Couple of days ago now but this is the first time I’ve managed to get on the forum, managed to bring our little one home from the hospital after 8 days, mum wasn’t too well but this was little ones first experience of a Mercedes, think she liked it.

Congrats Matty. Missed this post so congrats to you both. Glad to hear your missus is on the mend too.

Really? 80mph indicated v 72mph actual is a big difference
I’ve found Mercedes to be between 2 and 3 mph out (over reading)

Nothing as big as 8mph (unless you’ve seriously changed rolling wheel diameter)

Both my SLs are bang on (but they both have oversize tyres).

For sure, my senario at traffic lights starting in 2nd nice and smooth start, accelerate around the roundabout, engine now high revving, couldn't change gear to match speed until on a straight. Just found it an awkward feature.

Most speedos over read manufacturers build it in for safety, you can check using GPS, my last 3 cars were all bang on 10% that included JLR, Lexus and Mercedes. I am only using Satnav GPS to check but in 38 years driving not received a single ticket so I guess 72 is correct or all speed cameras let you off at 80mph....

Yes that does seem large. My 204 at 80mph indicated is doing 78mph real speed, same with the w221.

One little point about using a GPS to measure speed is they they aren't 100% accurate either as although they have excellent resolution in the X,Y plane they have poor Z (vertical) resolution.
If you are on a slope, rolling terrain etc the speed can be some way off correct.
They are also prone to errors from reflections in mountainous terrain or built up areas.
