Painted the Grill Satin Black - didn't quite like that Silver colour that was trying to imitate Aluminum....
Oh, and sorry about the "AMG" Badge - I like it - just hope it isn't illegal aswell......

Drove 70 miles up to the dealer to get a couple of things sorted that i spotted on the SLK after purchasing it. Dropped it off and had a walk round the town for 90 mins + non alcoholic ale followed by a Costa and sit by a lake. All sorted - Boot brake light replaced and armrest catch fixed.

1999 CLK430, 2007 VITO 3.0V6 , W124's (1994 320TE , 1993 220TE ) , 07 2.5 X-Type
I decided it was time to get the rear wash on the Vito working The wiper works but there was no water so anxious to avoid a scenario where it has come off the wiper inside the tailgate and is pumping into the tailgate over the lock and wiper electrics I decided it needed sorting Initial Diagnosis revealed the Pump for the rear wash pump not to be working as there " appeared " to be voltage there so I sourced a new pump
Pump arrived connected it up bingo it spins so inserted it and then tried with the pipe disconnected at entry to the rear wiper motorhousing inside the tailgate Now the pump doesnt spin at all so its all off again tried it with a independant 12v supply from a spare battery and it works I now think right I'll make sure I remember the polarity orientation of the supply and suprisingly the pump works whichever way you connect it eh ? hows that ? and I mean it pumps out water whichever polarity you choose however the pressure was substantially greater on one than on the other so the strongest was noted for reference on refitting
When Refitted I could then get a lot of water at pressure out of the pipe on the tailgate just before it enters the wiper motor so I then connected it up to the wiper motor but disconnected the spray nozzle block on the wiper arm so as to eliminate that if still no water . Now no water comes out so it appears that there is either a blockage inside the wiper motor assembly where the water piper runs through it or in the tube exiting from the wiper motor to the wiper spray nozzle so it looks like I'm going to have to remove the wiper motor now to check the tube and the route thru the motor ( I'm wondering does the wiper have to move for the water to come thru ???? as I'm still using my independant 12V supply therefore the wiper is not moving )
My second problem is that the pump only appears to work when I use the independant 12V supply when I voltmeter the Contacts on the connector for the pump i get a 12V ish spike which almost immediately dies to nothing so cant be a fuse problem is there a relay or something that times the pulse on the pump for the rear wash other than this why have i not got a constant 12V at the connector contacts when the rear wash wipe switch is pressed I Thought fixing this would be straightforward and not turn into the saga it appears to have become ! must be one of the simplest systems on the van surely not that hard to fix All i need is constant 12V and a clear path I remove the rear wiper motor and then open it up and its blocked in the tube inside I clear it with some welding wire and reassemble / reinstall connect up bingo!! water at the rear nozzles I wonder how the pump appears to be working plugged into the proper connector ............. The answer ................ provided on another forum .......... The wash wipe is disabled when the tailgate is up so that explains the voltage spike enough to register but not to activate the pump and it probably means that there was nothing wrong with my original pump ( i had the tailgate up and the tube inside all opened up to check water flow .... by opening the tailgate I had disabled the Pump ! All i had was a blockage in the tube inside the wiper motor well we live and learn !!! and on the way home tonight the RHS window stayed down so thats the job for tomorrow / weekend likely the window regulator assembly .

Well it's been a while since I've been on here simply because I've continued to enjoy hassle/realtively cost free motoring in my lowly SL350, touch wood long may it continue. The only fly in the ointment in 18 months was a gear changing issue that turned out to be the throttle pedal sensor but you have to buy the whole pedal.
I did however treat it to a damn good clay bar, polish and wax today, when I get bored I look through the classifieds at other cars but I still love the look of my ageing R230 so it's not going anywhere soon. :)

When pricing up parts got an offer of 60% off if I joined GSF's VIP club. Actually just means give them your email so they can pester you. I know it's not really 60% as they often give you 55% anyway (off a fictitious inflated price), but my springs were £19 cheaper than CP4U (17% off) and £29 cheaper than ECP (37% off).

New battery in the W164, old battery at 11.9V, new battery at 12.6V

Lessons learned, 019AGM batteries are expensive, and the W164 designers were having a laugh when they decided where to put the battery.

Lots of short journeys over the weekend, threw a bucket of water over it then gave the windscreen a good clean inside and out. Very important at this time of year with the low sun to get the dust and marks off the screen.

So true, I've polished the inside of my windows too. Will do outside when time & rain allow.

Fun replacing the battery isn't it. Especially if it hasn't been changed before and you have to cut the carpet.
