Have you tried Vaseline around the rubber seal to see which bit isn't sealing with the boot lid?

No Russell I haven't, to be honest its never occurred to me do do that. I've only lubed it with Gummi-pflege. It's like the boot lid isn't touching the rubbers with enough pressure to stop the water drawing in

That’s what the Vaseline does, wherever it doesn’t make a mark on the underside of the boot lid is where it’s not making a seal.
I’d do that, I’d also remove the seal (if it’s just a push fit) and check for tears or other damage. I’d also check that the metal under the seal is all good.

Have you tried Krytox oil. I used to use it on my VW Eos, now there is a water leaker, and it did a great job of softening the rubber seals. It is a product that was recommended by VW and I have to say it was effective. The only thing is it is quite expensive at around £70 for 30ml. It does last quite a long time though :)

Thanks Russell, it'll be a while now as I am recovering from surgery now 6 weeks off work. Not allowed to do any car activity for at least 3 weeks :( And now my phone battery is nearly flat, good job really, still feeling groggy

These are X-rated photos. Normally preceded by a card warning those of a nervous disposition to look away from the screen now. Water ingress is the feared enemy. Happily my car is tucked away and will come out with sunshine or not at all.

That is a great picture of all new shiny stuff in boxes , makes me want to get ordering . The car will be running like new after all that .
Definitely, it's 30 years old car, so it needs a new life breathing.

Mine is my everyday car so gets lots of use. The strange thing is that water doesn't make its way to the boot floor, or the sponge around the PSE pump

Fitted some 17" Staggered AMG 1's today.... Thought I had better do it before the heavens open for the next few days!!!

Not bad, they came with Conti's on the front and Rainmaster 3's on the rear!

Needs another polish soon as all this rain has put a dent in its resistance....:mad::mad:

That is definitely one of the nicest car colours on the road . What a timeless shape the CLK is . You mean it needs wax rather than polish ? It already looks like it’s been polished to within an inch of its life

Or is it just the colour that makes it shine .
You don’t see many around in that colour, looks Superb.

Yes sorry, I meant Wax..... When I got the car it was apparent that it hadn't been waxed/polished in a long time as the water covered the car in an unbroken sheet...!!! I've only had one opportunity to do it once! with A-G HD Wax. (I will give it a go with the A-G UHD next).
And yes, it is a lovely colour - although I will say the photos make it look better than it is "in the flesh" so to speak.... :(:(

Thank you, far too kind.......

As in reply to Wighty's Post above, I have only waxed it once with Autoglym's High Definition Wax. Not sure when it was last done, but it was a long time ago!
