Touched up a couple of paint chips that I spotted whilst washing it the other day. Need to build the layers up slowly but surely with my trusty toothpick. Great colour match from the touch up paint I bought from XtremeAuto on Amazon for £6.99

Don't know quite where to post this but I have just seen a 2013 C63 Black Series Coupe in Fire Opal Red go under the hammer at Sotherby's in London and it made £108,500 !!!. Albeit the auction was streamed in 2016. How can this be ?

Sat beside it this morning while working on the Golf (new gear linkage bushings bit of a wrestle but what a difference and a little light MIG patch on the cross member to keep things neat not bad for 30 years).
This afternoon I changed the serpentine belt not really cracking but a felt a bit hard like plastic (Mercedes part changed out for a SKF kit of pulleys and belt) but both the idler and tensioner pulleys were slightly rough so worth the effort along with a oil change for the supercharger. Odd I could only get out about 95ml of oil which was very clean and it overflowed after 110ml on refill.
Putting the resonance box back on I dropped one of the two bolts holding the lower bracket on to the engine tray necessitating a few choice words and the removal of the rear tray to retrieve it. After trying for about 15 minutes to align the top bolt I gave up and came in as being confined to "barracks" here I'll have plenty of time over the next few weeks!
Oh and the oil leak from the vacuum pump at the back of the engine has returned after a new gasket and O ring on the shaft and a second time some added RTV sealer. Again time to investigate and perhaps third time lucky.
Further to this I spent over two hours trying to figure out why I couldn't get the top bolt back in the resonance box bracket.
Moved it every way, used lights, mirrors, the hole, cunningly placed out of direct sight below the water pump pulley (even thought of removing that) seemed to align but nothing I did made the bolt start. Took the box out looked at the rubber and brass grommets which are slotted, thought it may have slipped around, tried all angles no success. The bottom one went in no trouble at all, tried changing the bolts both the same length, ground a sharper point on the bolt no different, but went in easily when the box was removed.
Finally pulled a grommet off the box and tried with the bolt but just turned around and wouldn't start, the last spanner man had stripped the first few threads, so made up a stud and loctited it in, made fitting easier with a nylock nut. If you are going to swing on a spanner with a alloy block engine a torque wrench is ESSENTIAL!
Further investigation, again with a mirror and torch revealed (I hope) that the oil leak from the vacuum pump at the rear of the engine is coming from between the cover of the pump and the main body and not from between the main body and the block.
To be continued, off for an early and perhaps prolonged apero :D:D:D:D:D

Had a nice 3.5hr drive, roads generally quieter than normal

Black series are very very sought after, if I remember correctly Mr AMG (Raz Roken) paid mid 80s for his white slightly tatty one and added value - so that for a good Fire Opal would be quite possible . 507 special edition are gaining value too

It looked quite scruffy actually or maybe it was just the way it looked on the picture, it wasn't particularly HD it was just streamed by Sotherby's.

My car just passed its MOT. Mercedes Hindhead, amazing service. Drove about six miles to collect it this morning. MOT completed by noon. They'll wash & vac the car, before driving six miles to return it to me. Total cost including everything, £20.00. Astonishing.

An old B-Class.
Been a slow job doing a proper clean of my car but today I applied Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Wax.

Waxing a white car is probably the most unrewarding and PITA job to do but I am really impressed with the product - it has given the paintwork a great gloss.

Ha - bought the same battery yesterday. Too embarrassed to say how much I had to pay, but it was somewhat urgent, due to my stupidity. I give in - how can you have a 15th month though?
I think its 15th week 2019.

That does look nice Rory, and if the long range forecast is anything to go by you've got another two weeks of it looking like that :)

Took the bus out to Burton Dasset with the dogs to give them some exercise.
Reminded me what a consummate cruiser the 210 is.

I took a drive to our neighbouring village, Chiddingfold. A stunning silver Aston Martin DB5 was parked outside the nicest house in this picture-book village. The car was pristine. The beautiful Queen Anne house was a perfect setting for this gem.

Was that price a special promotion ?
