Well would you believe it, Aviva has come in at £178.00 ! It's always worthwhile checking the ones not on the comparison sites..

Been with Aviva 2 years now, still untouchable and gave the wife free 3 years NCB in her first year!

I was with them 3 years ago but they went off the boil for some reason and wouldn't price match. Still, looks like they have got me back.

As my insurance is up next month I thought that I'd check Aviva out with all the mentions of them on here recently and the cheap quotes being posted.

No such luck here unfortunately. The website wouldn't quote me and, after contacting them via phone, it turns out that the problem is the value of the car. I remember having this hassle when I bought it whilst shopping around. Still, worth a try I suppose. The Meerkat's are currently coming in at ~£1k so it looks like I'm tied with Ageas through my current broker for at least another year.

So today in boredom I began to alter an under seat bracket designed for a Renault Megane to fit my W176.
Made a few cuts, adaptions & re-drilled mounting holes & fitted the bracket through the front bolts of the seat mount eventually got it to fit as I wanted
Now just waiting for a 1kg Gloria extinguisher to arrive which haven taken dimensions should fit nicely under the seat nicely held in place through the elongated fixing slots without having to drill additional holes in the body of the car.

Dash binnacle out the check odometer LCD part number , took the opportunity to clean the PCB and contact on the LCD ribbon, its improved the display unreadable to almost passable

Realised today thanks to bank statement arriving that I have not withdrawn cash from an ATM for over a month!

I haven’t used cash since lockdown as even my local village store prefers contactless payments when I buy some milk, etc. I see that our local Eastern European hand car wash now also takes cards so that’s one less place to use cash in future.

HMR&C will do well out of the switch away from cash payments as more and more of your business's transactions will be on bank and card company records, lessens the ability to be "creative" with the tax returns! Pretty sure a BIL with a B&B used to siphon off a proportion of his takings and not tell the accountant, I think it made a significant contribution to the apartment near Malaga he bought!

Back in pre credit card days Mum had a ladies dress shop and Dad was a company secretary and qualified accountant. On paper the business made a slight loss when they bought it, takings were all cash and cheque, the business accounts showed a slight loss or small profit for the 4 years they owned it, but Mum and Dad never had to go to the bank for cash...

To the detriment of many of those "cash in hand " businesses prior to the pandemic. Government will only pay the 80% based on tax returns over the previous two years. I reckon there are a few out there kicking themselves.

It always amazes me when people proudly tell me how they are getting one over the tax man on their cash transactions. They forget that those of us who are honest about our income (or PAYE) are subsidising them.

Thanks David, that's too is a possibility, I tried to make the light work by putting it across battery terminals but it still didn't light up, that's if I was doing it correctly, that's in my electrical section.

Had a quote today from a local garage to replace the AC condenser and dryer on my SL500.......just over £600 including the regas. Still waiting for the quote from my local MB indie, it's taken 6 weeks so far for some reason
