It’s very difficult indeed hence me hanging onto my SL for 13 years... What to do? How about a panamera?
Nice but I’d never pick one over a 911

I was told by my company that two doors were no longer permitted and so in desperation was looking around for what else could do (in terms of power for the same price range, (around 2012). Never liked it much myself but would have to settle... the company eventually forgot about it since it wasn’t strictly legit to ask and so that purchase was averted :)
Just a suggestion to the question posed earlier...

Yes. The hardest part was getting the centre sections out of the plugs. I used a couple of trim removers that had a claw hammer type end on it for extracting the centre pins out.
Once they were out and the T25 retaining bolt, the old one lifted out reasonably easily. After that it was just a matter of removing the plate at the top of the seal from they old one, working the new one into position, reinstalling the plugs and the T25 retainer bolt.
Parts from dealer. The actual part was an unbelievable bargain at less than £9+Vat.

Thanks for the reply Damoe, I'll hopefully get a look at mine this weekend

Not a fan of the Panamera but I do like the 4 door coupe style hence why I bought my S5. I keep looking at Maserati Grantourismo's on Autotrader but the maintnance costs could be ruinous. The CLS could be an option if a V8 but I'm still not totally sold on one. Decisions, decisions..... I might end up keeping what I have!

Paid National Windscreens the £50 excess payment which my insurance company insist upon. They needed the money up front as it is being ordered directly from Mercedes upon my request.

Apparently I didn't need to ask for this service as there are no pattern ones currently about for this model. I won't be holding my breath waiting for a replacement though, this could take some time...

ETA: Windscreen company just phoned to say the screen is coming from Germany and will be 3 - 5 working days. Yes, of course it will, it'll take them longer than that to locate one, let alone ship it. :(

Dave,

just out of interest, “pattern” windscreens are a myth. Even the ones without the OEM mark come from the OEM via their spares supply chain- windscreen tooling is so ruinously expensive that it only ever gets laid down once! And even the carmakers have second thoughts about it’s complexity; last tooling cost I saw from Saint- Gobain was around £4m for a 120k per annum volume.

I managed 26.2 mpg when I first purchased the car, then once I got used to the throttle pedal distance between the bottom of the pedal and carpet I never saw 26.2 again :D
You sir deserve an extra Like for that, but it only allows me to do one!

Thank you kind Sir.
I too was very taken back with the MPG too, we achieved 29 mpg from the 500 going to Scotland one year, and the 7 speed 500 only manages about the same as the 5 speed 500

If it's as good as it looks, then, you're on a winner. Someone really took care of that motor.

Drove 300 miles to sunny North Wales , stopped in Snowdonia on the way up for a quick 2 hour walk in the hills . Stopped and swam in the Llyn (lake ) below Pen yr ole wen .
When I say swam I mean screamed and got out again before I died , but it was still a total immersion which still counts
