Just updated the maps on mine via the ME Portal. What a rigmarole that was.

Mercedes download manager needed updating firstly, then over an hour to d/l the maps to a USB stick before transferring them into the car. I only went for the most popular UK and European ones, apparently there wasn't enough room on the 16GB memory stick to load the Eastern European/Russian stuff, not that I need it anyway. It would probably have taken a day if I wanted them all...

Sometime during the night, someone went through my corner.

Drove the SLK to The Ferry at Stone in Oxney - only about 10 miles of country roads, top down, lovely. Meal at the pub was superb, drove home in the dark, first time I've driven her in full darkness, impressed with the headlights so not now contemplating how to change the bulbs to Nightbreakers (no idea what bulbs are installed!).

The car is close to 2 tons and the cracking is quite pronounced on the rear sidewalls. The fronts have cracking on the tread. Photos attached but they don't show it all, just a sample. View attachment 61961 View attachment 61962 View attachment 61963 View attachment 61964
I'm waiting for quote to come back from my local garage.
The fronts look more like scrubbing rather than perished. The cracking on the rears......tbh for me I probably wouldn't worry too much. Tyre construction makes delamination pretty unlikely and as this is a long way from the pressurised carcass then a blow out is also unlikely.
However...... For peace of mind, and bearing in mind your comment about car weight...
Do you want to drive with a little worry in the back of your mind?
Or drive happy, but broke?
Change them, but it isn't an emergency so you have time to hunt down a deal?
I use tyreleader....

Thank you. The place I usually get tyres from said the same as you about not changing them. However the pics don't show everything and there is some sidewall cracking on the rears too.
My incentive for going ahead is that the supplying dealer has agreed to contribute towards the cost so I'll wait until they tell me how much they are going to chip in before finally deciding, but as the tyres are all that's touching the road, and winter is coming, I prefer to err on the side of caution :D

Bulbs are easy to change, you just have to take the relevant wheel off and the front section of the wheel arch liner. It’s much easier than trying to get at the back of the lights from under the bonnet

Or, if you’re lucky, turn the wheel to full opposite lock to the side you need to change and you may be able to get away with not removing the wheel...

You can do, more space to work with the wheel off and as there's a couple of screws holding the wheel arch liner under the front bumper it's easier having the car raised slightly to get to them.

Well! Outstanding news! The dealer has agreed to pay for the fitting of 4 new tyres!
I'm going to go with the Dunlop's that @JBell recommends
I know they're not winter tyres but I'm considering a set of 18" wheels for that if I feel I need to during the icy season
