S211 serviced. New filters, oil and a reprogramme of anything that needed doing

Not so good was this horrendous water leak
Only just happened has we put the car in position for lifting it into the air, poor EClass, must have been scared of heights and we'd herself
6 litres of antifreeze on the workshop floor.
Filled it up after the service, drove it for 1/2 hr to bring everything up to temperature so the transmission could be checked and no more leaks.
New pump ordered ;) View attachment 65980
Do all your cars leak Peter...?

What did you use buddy ? It’s a cracking improvement
I literally washed them. I pulled them all the way out and clamped them so they wouldn't spring back in, then I got a bucket of hot water with a biological clothes washing tab (Tesco's own in this case). Then I soaked as much of the belt as I could in the bucket, which I stood next to the car on a small box to get it level with the lowest part of the seatbelt.
There was a part of the belt between the bottom mounting and the bucket, which I couldn't get into the bucket, so I dipped a cloth in the soapy water and wrapped it round that part of the belt so it got soaked and I put a polythene sheet under that to make sure the carpet and the side of the seat stayed dry. The upper part of the belt couldn't reach the water either, but that's clean anyway, because it pretty much always stays rolled up in the side housing.
I left it soaking for an hour, agitating the water occasionally to get those enzymes busy eating the dirt. After that, I used a scrubbing brush to gently scrub each side using the same water. And then I gave them a rinse in clean water
To dry them, I squeegeed the excess water out between my fingers and then rubbed them drier with a microfibre towel a couple of times. After that I left them hanging outside the car. It was a warm day yesterday so they were dry in a couple of hours. Obviously it's not good to let them roll up again until they're completely dry otherwise you might get mould in the housing.
As you can see it works a treat - even better than I expected, actually.

Cleaned half the Sahara off the car and added another layer of Sonax. Looking superb in the sunlight!
Doing mine to-morrow, never had such a dirty car..........ever !! :(

Spent the whole morning getting rid of the Sahara. Now looks like a new car again :D

The joys of Mercedes ownership.........and nicely serviced ones too, come to that matter
Fitted the new water pump, flushed the system and now waiting for my Liqui Moly radiator cleaner to give the car a thorough internal clean after my Indy found the anti-freeze in such poor condition.

Great isn't with a Mercedes history for the past 10 years, not only was there deposits of dust and thick sludge in the system, but brown coloured dirty transmission fluid and black treacle engine oil!!! And only 6000 miles before next service.
Here is a heads up for non mechanical minded members who may take their Mercedes for work at any Indy. If a new problem with your car happens while at the Indy, it can be a 99% chance that it is a coincidence  Just like what happened with mind when it arrived for servicing yesterday, all was well until the car was driven over the 2 post to lift into the air. The water pump decided to leak, just one of those things
On a brighter note on the SLK we have been unable to open the boot, either with the fob or handle, you can hear it clicking. It'll open with the key blade.
After the E Class I decided to have a look and founded this.....

20210228_160241.jpg

It has broken away from one of the little gear drive wheels and jammed itself in the catch stopping the catch from releasing.

All working now, but for how long?? Another call to Grangemouth :)

Being Sunday and sunny, for the first time this year took SWMBO to church in the SLK, put the roof down before collecting her and then had "satnav" failure, for some reason the 4 miles home took 1 1/4 hours via the Kent coast!:D:D:D Only downside was that we could not visit one of our favourite pubs, but as both have large beer gardens hopefully it will not be long before that returns as part of Sunday mornings!!

Not very good are they  I find often myself up little roads barely wide enough for the car whether I have it on 'Fastest Route, most direct route or most economic route' so I just don't bother with it and just use my common sense  Wayz on your phone is by far superior if you really need guidance :)

Any comments about MB satnav inevitably result in "Waze is better" - but that is only true for those who have mobiles on monthly contracts with mobile data - which neither wife or I have! We're old fashioned enough to have "mobile phones" not "mobile PC's", are on O2 classic PAYG tariff and unless at home or in reach of an acceptable wireless network use the mobile phone as a phone - the only reason we originally got one was to be able to contact each other or the emergency services in case of a breakdown or similar. Having been brought up reading OS maps, I prepare for the limitations of MB satnav by planning ahead from home on the PC using Google Maps so I have a picture of the route in my mind, and can thus decide for myself whether the MB satnav is taking me on a different (unacceptable) route!

Used to have a C63...
I didn't find the sat nav in the C63 too bad - think it was NTG4(ish)?

The NTG2.5 in the old CLS was fairly clunky though, but to be fair that was a 2007 car!

The system in the UnMerc is surprisingly good, albeit with graphics by Lego! (Marginally improved with last update, I note).

I find the one in the 09 and 05 car just takes you randomly to your destination whether it be set for fastest or longest route. I think they are the only self thinking Nav's I have come across.
The Jag was so superior in every way, and would take you to the door of any destination. 09 Mercedes ones seem to take you to either end of the road you want, if it's over a mile away your on your own. Having said that the 52 and 03 plate Nav's even though don't do postcodes would take you nearly to your destination :) Even the 06 plate Laguna took you virtually to the address and that didn't do postcodes either. I think I am starting to put 2 and 2 together and making 7..............Its sabotage because we have been wanting to go our own way so European Sat Nav manufacture's thought they'll pay! I think that is why the Jag ones are better ;)

Replenished the anti-freeze into the E Class and was worried when I saw a big puddle under the front of the car  Don't tell me the water pump fitting was a failure??
No it is just another part failing on this car, washer pump for the headlights leaking............. If this keeps up I'll have a brand new 2005 E Class shortly

Found more water, all my newly filled anti-freeze is all over the tarmac
This car doesn't get any better, hopefully an easy fix tonight when I finish work or it's going to be a long night waiting for the AA  or one lemon for sale :(

I'm growing Blobcat, in impatience

But I don't think it is the cars fault this time. The mechanic at work might have said to me after I told him what happened. Did you have the clip in properly?? 'Oh dear'! I said, after he told how they work. Just hope the clip stayed somewhere in the vicinity of the lower tray
That means the other clip isn't in properly either :(

After my success with cleaning the UnMerc yesterday, I tried the GLC today and now I have two nice clean cars.

All I can say is that I must be spending too much time reading this forum because I think I actually enjoyed cleaning and polishing it  and may even give it a go again sometime!
