Cleaned the valley of death in the W251 having removed the oil cooler. Took best part of half a day all the nooks and crannies.

I think the cleaning of parts will take the longest.

I have also concluded, the ONLY good design on the OM642 is the weep hole for when the cooler leaks.

Went for a drive in the W220, smiled and said to myself the best MB diesel (OM 648)). Never gave any bothet at all.

Brake pad warning light intermittently showing up. Mirror and torch show plenty of pad left, one front pad a little lower than the rest. I remember on the last car having to replace the discs and pads as the sensors had been overriden and I was trusting them.

Closer inspection shows some muppet has fitted one of the front sensors to the rear, forced it in and the lip of the disc has worn it away. Gods teeth, the plugs are slightly different too but a rear one will fit in one of the front sockets! Now chopped off and crimped, dash light out.

Loaded up this morning with the tailgate, bumper and side mouldings ready for paint. I'm prepared for a big bill, possibly twice what the car cost.

Returned the S211 rear seats to normal after dropping the panels off for paint and vacuumed the interior at work on Friday as l'm loaning the car to a colleague on Sunday.

Decided to give the interior a bit of a clean Saturday afternoon then stupidly started to clean the beige seat belts as there were a few mould spots. Long story, but the rears came out great and the fronts streaky as l ran out of cleaner.

The car smelt like a 70s public swimming pool as the cleaner contained bleach so hours were then spent wet vacuuming all the belts and drying them.

Whilst the wet vacuum was out l did the S204 seat stains and they came out ok so not all was lost.

We went out in the S204 this afternoon and with the demist on there is a cheesy smell from the front vents. :(

That is a classic case of bacteria in the air conditioning/ventilation system.
Run the car with the heating at full temperature and then use an air con bomb to destroy the bacteria. It might be a good plan to change the cabin filter as well.

I use a Bilte Hamber zircon bomb every spring

Thanks, I think you are correct. We had the A/C recharged last week with dye as I suspect a leak, @AMGeed did the same in April and was not blowing cold when we bought the car. Now working and blowing cold I expect the bacteria is having a whale of a time with the extra moisture. I will check the condensor drains and order a cabin filter for starters.

I tried a Turtlewax Odor-X odour bomb from Halfords in my S211, "Kinetic New Car Scent". Good grief it was strong and would take your breath away when you opened the door!

After I had the car regassed in April, I too got a nasty pong from the vents. I bought one of the Halfords a/c bombs which cleared the whiff totally.
A fresh cabin filter is a good idea.

I cleaned the gle.. and polished it.. then it rained.. I tried to connect to the Internet for first time but it couldn't.. tried to see if doors have puddle lights only to remove lens and no wires.. connected mymerc app .. only for it to say doors open unlocked boot open.. but they are locked, this is day three of ownership, sounding more like range rover business as usual. ☹️

As part of the oil cooler job .
(Yesterday). Spent much of the morning using mr muscle de carbing the EGR intake throttle mixer box on the OM642.
What a sludgy mess these engines are. i have cleaned the inlets, gas cooler, now this. The amount of carbon is shocking really. Must delimit the volume by at least 10% I say. Now time for a morning coffee before i get back on it.
