Usually a few of the Turbine wheels on E-Bay individually. PITA to clean so people change them for the 5 spoke AMG

Yes, I can totally agree. Someone must have spent some time keeping these Turbine (or Multi-Spoke on the data card) clean.
I have 5 Spoke 19" on the 02 55 and it is quite a harsh ride on our beautiful cart tracks.

Sprinter 417 CDI Standard 2.0l 2023. BMW Z3 2.8 1998.
In readiness to offload it, early next week on Motorway (can't be arsed with the aggro of trying to sell it privately). A new Motability EV is due in March. So after 25 years of MB car ownership, will only have 1 MB, a Sprinter tractor head based Weinsberg Cara Compact Edition Pepper MEG 640 MB in the fleet.

Had previously been diamond cut, but not possible this time, so powder coated in AMG Blue/Grey/Silver finish. Happy with it. Will probably look at getting the UnMerc wheels done, something unique, later in the year.

Will be getting cleaned on Friday.

Replaced those three pesky seals between the airbox, inlet pipe and throttle body and what a difference. Clearly the old ones were well past it as expected on a 20 year old 155,500 mile car.

No more air leaks, banks 1 & 2 running too rich or occasional idle hunting plus the added bonus of smoother running. With luck I'll get improved mpg on the longer journeys plus closer to the 200 or so horses it had when it left the factory. No pics of changing these as I did last night in the drizzle and the dark and it's a 15-20 min job.

In other news I also resealed the cam caps at the back of the engine as they were leaking oil which explained the occasional 'oil burning' smell and why I was having to keep topping up the oil and replaced the headlight bulbs with uprated Philips Vision plus ones as driving at night round the back of Whipsnade and Ashridge in these dark evenings show how poor halogen bulbs are now compared to Xenon and LED ones.

Will do another oil and filter change plus cleaning the plugs with it running rich for so long over the weekend.

Occasionally, you can be just that one year older and the premium shoots up.
I found up to 65, the premiums were lower or a very small increase. After that, any figure seemed to be on the table depending on if the company wanted you as a customer or not.
A couple of years ago LV wouldn't touch me. Now they are the cheapest. Next renewal could be different again.
No sense or reason seemed to fit, but in general I'd say over 65's will pay mor than an under 65 yr old.
My LV renewal came through today, £710 compared to £807 last year. I will do a trawl of the comparison sites to see whether any other big names can do better than that,

Car diagnosed as Inlet Port Motor, being fixed, another £600 bill
Thats not too bad for the work involved, turbo out etc. I did it a couple of weeks ago on my 212 E350 CDI.....but i took the manifolds off, de carbonned them and fitted new oil cooler seals (purely a precautionary "while I'm in there" job). But doing all that was about 16 hrs work.....lots of which was cleaning and getting nasty black yuck everywhere!

I’ll apologies in advance, this might be a long post.

A few months ago (around Halloween), I was doing the usual drive up to the Lake District late one on a Friday night. Coming across the A66 I had to swerve to miss a little munckjack, however I hit the near side wheels against the kerb face one, enough to grind the faces nicely on the wheels and throw the car up in the air a few inches and land back down, at a guess although it was a 60 limit there, I’d braked at little so still likely hit it at 45-50.
Bambi was fine and I drove on to the house, took a look the next day at the state of the alloys and tires, also a look to see if anything looked bent etc, other than now needing a grind and refurb, all seemed ok.

A couple of weeks later I started to notice a drone coming in at just before 50 and disappearing after 60, though maybe a faint noise still at 70.
I booked the old girl into MB Centre in Nottingham (my trusted Indy) and asked them to investigate, also swapped from the summer tyres and wheels to my winter set to rule out that the tread was just getting low and making the noise. Anyway, the tech found the doughnut to be perished a little so thought it may have been the culprit and also the dust plate at the rear was just rubbing slightly, together probably just enough to make the noise.
Collected the car and as I needed it a lot in December and January just had to live with the noise, however it was starting to get worse.

So it’s been back with the Indy this week, investigating as well as doing some other work they had noticed when it was in last (general maintenance things for a 15 year old car), after doing those things they took it out again and could hear the drone still, so back in and up on the lift, wheels off and run up to 50 in the air. They located the noise, it was coming from the diff. Next step they drain the oil (which I’d only had some earlier in the year anyway) and check it for stuff you don’t want to see in oil, glitter! They found it and some light filings, so we knew it had to be that.

The team gave me a call this morning after doing some due diligence on a replacement diff, giving me a few options, I needed to sit down when they gave me the cost from MB themselves, £3200 for a new one and £2640 for a reconditioned unit. I can’t afford that right now with a house build going on and the car in reality even in as good condition as she is, probably isn’t worth more than ~£5k now, so they had been looking for used options and have found one from a reputable place that test the units, replace the seals and also provide a 90 day warranty on them, all for around £630, which I think isn’t that bad. They rang a few places that were cheaper but didn’t have much confidence in the sellers, so this is what we’ve gone for. Delivery should hopefully be towards the end of next week and then they need to strip the old one out and put this one in, fill it up and road test to make sure it’s all ok.

So, my wallet is going to be lighter and I’m carless for probably about three weeks. Not a great time either with the building work being delayed and us finding more issues from the previous owners bodges. But at least it’s almost February and the days are getting lighter :(
Finally got the car back today, £3k lighter after the diff replacement, a rear calliper replacement, rear camber arms and bolts, rear seatbelt retaining trim, a parking sensor and new rear disks and pads.
So quite a list of things, but glad to that’s the old girl back, and running well, I do now need to give her a wash and a decent run to top the battery up and get some miles back on her

I think M-B Eastbourne did ours a few years ago without completely removing the turbo - saved some pennies. But meant the oil cooler seals didn't get done...

Yesterday fitted the new boot struts.
Then discovered there's no locking nut for the wheels, typical the near side don't have any locking wheel bolts, only the off side.
Which leaves me to think that the key is at the tyre place who fitted the new tyres to the near side, or the key is in the PO's garage.
Hopefully the PO has it?
Just waiting to hear back.
