It's top front of the V. Looks nice and easy till you discover there's a bolt that's about 2 miles long that won't pass the big aluminium intake tube and fuel lines. They almost got it right but then messed up with that one bolt.

I remember that bolt well along with many many swear words for having to loosen the resonator which has bugger all room on a c class to get to.

If you think it's bad on a C class an R class is a whole different league as most of the engine is hidden below the scuttle!

Did an oil change with the trusty old suction pump no mess no crawling about and even sucked the remains out of the oil filter housing

Took me an evening and an hour - say 2 1/2 hours in total, partly because I started doing in the dark by torch light and partly because I couldn't find a spanner to get on the long bolt.
Once I had it figured out it was easy(ish) to get back together.

Took my car for its very first longer run today.
I done this run with my previous CLA 250 at the same average speed and got 10mpg more, but considering this car has more power and AWD capability I am more than happy with the difference. :)

47.9mpg is excellent for that engine and quite a big car. I get excited when mine gets over 30mpg.

I have newer cars but I must say, my go to whenever I go out is my E350 - it is just Ronseal...if anyone in the UK knows what I mean.

Also - the ride quality, even though it is a 'sport' model if that makes any adverse difference to the ride - but the ride quality flabbergasts me everytime - so effortlessly smooth - I presume a fully documented main dealer history for a car approaching 10 years old with approx. only 50K miles and not having to want for anything having been adorned all the services and parts it has ever wished for, pampered excessively and proactively maintained regardless of cost, is the reason why, I seriously dont think a new one could ride too much better.

Love it to bits, doesnt stop me looking at the classifieds as I work from home these days, but then I pop out for some nicotine during the day and look at it, and I think 'I can't imagine anything doing the job that the E does better'....even at twice the price....(although the outgoing S class is tempting).

Therefore, and back to the thread topic...what did I do to it today...I gave it a much deserved day off...it was able to relax and rest without having to work all day...and sit there looking pretty.

This is not a pic from today...but one that I like. View attachment 74175

You painted your car with Ronseal One Coat Damp Seal!!!:eek::eek::eek::shock::shock::shock:................That is really bad......No wait a minute (damp proofing/keeping water out???) Whooo you've given me a great idea.........:D

He has wasted nearly 2 hours that's true, if only he'd kept No8 in his tool box

As a door to door round trip average with cruise set to 58mph on open road sections I reckon it is right on the limit of what is achievable with my car. :geek:
When I was younger I put my foot down all the time and seen it as a personal insult if another car overtook me, but now I am happy to enjoy a stress free journey while watching other cars fly past. :)
I still like to have fun now and and again though. :p

I start to worry if the 230 gets up to any number higher than 26...
It means I've turned into Miss Daisy!

Found out 2 things about the car that I didn't know/realise.

1. I can close the boot from inside the car by pushing down on the release button - still trying to find a practical use for that :)
2. On unlocking the car at night, the DRL's come on with a beautiful blue glow that gradually turns to bright white - nice touch :)

Every day is a school day!!

Done over 500 Mile's in the Money Pit since the core plug fiasco and its only cost me in diesel, oh I hope I haven't been too hasty in my phase, its such a lovely car to be in and drive, smooth, quiet and no knocks or thumps its just like a new car.......silly me it is a new car

It’s like painting the Forth Bridge. Fingers crossed all your work is a suitable advance!

So, today was both a solemn and exciting day for me…
My dear old w203 C270cdi has been passed on to pastures new, after almost 6 years and 45k miles of ownership, sorry to see the old girl go…but after 1 year of searching, there is only enough space in my drive for one car, and there is a new king of that castle:
