Replaced the oil in the Porker , as the display said it was needing an oil service.

First time doing an oil change with the vacuum extraction method and first time resetting the schedule with the iCarsoft. All went without issue and zero mess anywhere which saved a domestic and the total cost for the service items was £80 which also saved a domestic.

Yes you do not need any domestic issues or you would have had to break out the domestos!! Ha!

Used to have a C63...
Just spent 1.5hrs cleaning the nearside of Mrs R's UnMerc... so I could then try and polish out the full length scratches she managed to find during her meeting in Bath on Wednesday!

Top/outer edge of headlight, along (and over) front wing, caught mirror cap, along shoulder line of door (beneath mirror!) and down towards door handle, along passengers door and rear wing.

For a car that barely sees 2500 miles a year... she's got a gift!

Took the E-Golf in for a recall today.

It was only for a 32 amp charger cable issue, which has now been replaced with a new shiny one, but they also offered a complimentary health check which I thought I'd take them up on, more for amusement than anything else. It was a pleasant experience, I was told when I booked it in that it would be 40 minutes in total which was pretty accurate. It came back with a recommendation that an A/C service is due and the brake discs are rusty. The air con cost would be £18 (declined as it's only just over 2 years old) and the brakes should improve with a bit of use.

I got the obligatory video of the car underside (do all manufacturers do these now?) and then had a quick chat with the lady on the desk regarding what they had found. She pretty much agreed with me on the air con and was pretty understanding when I explained that the rust on the discs won't really go away too soon as I seldom use the car and, when I do, tend to use re-gen braking more than the pedal. I also mentioned that I do pop the wheels off every so often and go over the discs with a little strip and clean pad on an air sander, which I think was possibly too much information for her though she did smile politely. :)

At least no major faults were found with the car so I can now move onto a few things I've been thinking about with it, including cleaning and painting most of the suspension, though still not 100% convinced as to putting a spare private plate on it. I may leave this for another month or so as I'm still not convinced I'm going to be keeping the car as I'm still looking at stupidly large engined petrol 4x4s. I may just get one "as well" to compliment the others. It's as easy to have three which you don't use as two I suppose. :D

Finally got around to removing the footrest beside the clutch pedal, it's been driving me bonkers since I got the car, as my foot, when encased by almost any shoe, is a little too wide to slide easily between the gap between the clutch pedal and the rest as standard. I really need to be able to get my foot flat out to be comfortable on a long trip too.
I was able to tolerate it when the car was just being used for little local jaunts, but, we used the car for our summer week down to York at the end of July and, by the time we got back, I was about ready for the gallon of petrol and a match cure it had pi$$ed me off so much, which was a bit of a shame as otherwise I love the car, it suits me so well.
Anyhoo, I made a temporary cover out of the old trim section of the foot rest and it'll do until I can get a replacement made out of alloy to match the pedals.
Swmbo and I went for an extended test drive and I ended up at her favourite shopping mall where we made some bribery purchases for her and had a nice meal too.
A round trip of some sixty miles in complete comfort, now that this little upgrade has been made, I should have done it sooner but, kept putting it off because I thought that there would be chopping and trimming involved to remove the steel support, but no, three nuts and about half a dozen clips and the steel support was off, it took me longer to improvise a cover from the old trim piece tbh.

I had all the wheels on the car Hunter Road Force Balanced last weekend, to get rid of the infamous Audi TT judder at 80-90 mph.

What a difference, wow!

The car's as smooth as silk now and, I've fallen back in love with driving it.

For a little while there I thought I'd jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire buying the TT, after finally giving up on the C207 for basically the same issue, in fact I almost wish that I'd found this place before I traded the Merc, they might have been able to sort out the vibration issues I was having with it.

They did a fantastic job, it wasn't cheap compared to standard balancing but that just didn't work.

One wheel and tyre combination was A-ok, they checked it and basically, just did a balance, before putting that back on the car.

The other three were a some what different matter though, they found that they were all wildly out, so much so that, they removed each tyre and matched high points to low points between the wheel and tyre before massaging them into the perfect seating position and then balancing them.

A standard wheel balance on the full set normally can be done in around forty minutes in the place I usually go to, the Road Force Balance on mine took almost three hours, they really go into detail to make sure that they are done right.

They advised me that two of the tyres were close to the point that they would recommend replacing them despite having nearly 6mm of tread on them and visibly, at least, no obvious issues. In their experience they've found that Goodyear Eagle F1's are common for causing vibration issues on the TT, however, they were able to get them done after a lot of adjustment.

Another thing that they discovered when checking the car out was that the front calipers were partially seized and consequently this has toasted the discs and pads.

So, today I replaced the Calipers, discs and pads.

I did try to upload the prep pic with all the parts laid out but the file was too big apparently, hey ho, never mind.

I also got my steering wheel recovered and refitted and what a difference all these renovations make. It's now a wonderfully tactile feeling driving the car and I reckon the brakes will be superb just as soon as they're bedded in properly, the bite and feel from the pedal already has improved dramatically.

Wee pic of the new recovered wheel too.

All in all a very busy, productive weekend for me, I love driving this car! :D :D :D :geek:

Youngest son wanted to come to the workshop Saturday, so I found him some cars to wash. I’d promised him lunch at the Torque Moto Cafe, so we dragged the white caterham out to stretch it’s legs…

The Porsche dash lit up like a Christmas Tree a few days ago , lots of warning lights and disablements but mainly just big red £ signs. A quick scan with the Carsoft pointed to the rear RHS ABS sensor , £30 later and 45 mins work sorted it all out.

iCarsoft has just paid for itself, :)

Went on a bit of a mission, Swmbo's car, mine and m'works van all given a thorough going over, full monty inside and out.

They all came up quite well, typically, the rain started almost as soon as I finished taking the photo's.

Ach well never mind, they looked good for a couple of hours.

Had Bilsteins B6s fitted to the front of the wife's unMerc (BMW E93 3.0 mSport). Had fitted them to the rear a couple of years ago because the original fit shocks were leaking. Now they are on all 4 corners it has transformed the car. Got rid of the twitchy, pea on a drum ride. It now drives like a proper grown up car, handling is still spot on and can now be pushed harder with more confidence. Big improvement over BMW's sport shocks.
