Spent some time with two of my 3 Volvos this week. Not sure when l last started our V40 T4 but it did run and drive. Sounds destroyed, owned since it was 15 months old. Made it 12ft onto the grass and back again later. Still looks fresh inside, no mould, looks as if l drove it to work this morning.

The scrap S40 T4 showed me the middle finger, 3 flat tyres went up and held but once an oversized battery was fitted the starter would not go on the key. Had to run a wire from the battery to the starter, shut the bonnet, jump in and engage first gear.
Plenty of go in the battery so tried second gear, then third gear through my garage, down to second for the 90° left and stop on the grass. Bit of maneuvering back and forth and it's in place. Jump out, bonnet up and whip the considerably hot cable off the starter motor.
Remove battery ignoring how hot cables and terminals may or may not have been.

That S40 needs to go as the guy l bought it off has recently been locked up, 28 years for rape. Not shining my black over the seats in that one.

Really would like to find out what our V40 T4 is suffering from and l have an identical V40 T4 for spares but my Mercedes keeps calling!

Other non Mercedes that needed moving was a friends Jensen Interceptor, coughed and spluttered into life but really needs a good run and thorough thrapping.

My boring old S211 E320CDI started as if nothing had happened since March when l declared SORN. It did suggest a destination on Waze for me......

Half way to Silverstone the X1 requested new rear brake pads, got home and it then decided to request front brake pads.

All ordered from GSF, gone for Brembo with matching wear sensors.

Was surprised at the price difference, ECP with discount wanted £165 for it all in Pagid and GSF for Brembo was £124.91.

The wear sensors were the big difference

Pagid are now a rebrand of TMD friction . Most likely come out of a factory in Hartlepool,Teeside. . Not what Pagid used to be . Unfortunately..

Very odd to have them both come up as worn on the same trip....have you looked to see that they are actually worn and its not just some kind off electrical issue? How many miles on the pads?....i take it they are not original and have been changed before.

All original, car only has 43k on it, still have a few miles left.

Will change in a couple of weeks as SWMBO starts her new job which requires a trip to Chester (Hawarden) airport every 2-3 weeks so that is a 500 mile round trip and her Peugeot E-208 won't make it without an hours charge each way

Starting to look at E220d wagons

Even more suspicious.....never seen a car wear the fronts and backs out at the same rate. The fronts do about 75% of the braking. My wife's A Class has done about 85000 miles....its had two sets of front pads.....and if it was not for the rear discs rusting it would still have the original rear pads as they were only about half worn when I replaced them. On most cars its two or three sets of front pads to one rear.

See what happens when they are changed

ECP prices have become really silly high.
Have you ever got prices from NAPA. They will go bust soon at the prices they charge.

Cayenne passed its MOT today with no advisories , warranty extension due next week so yet more ££.

Boys Fiasco blowing warm air , just what we need at almost 30 degrees. Had quick look under the bonnet and found both upper condenser mounting bushes were shot allowing it to flap around , hopefully the movement hasn`t cracked one of the alloy pipes which has let the gas out . New bushes will be ordered tomorrow and once fitted it will be getting re-gassed.

Hadn’t used the BMW for a few days and on start-up the A/C emitted a disgusting smell I think the cabin pollen filter was last changed 5 years ago but the car has only covered <10k miles in that time, I guess this extreme heat has caused a boost in bacterial activity in there. I had a filter on the shelf so out came the tools this morning and the contortion began the job is fairly straight forward but the positions you have adopt to do it are a challenge.

While doing the job I discovered a 12V cigarette lighter socket under the horizontal panel in the passenger footwell the last tech to do the job had left it unplugged for some reason nice to know it’s there if you wanted to use it as a 12V power source for any 4 series owner reading this.

Expecting a Bilt Hamber A/C anti-bacterial spray to be delivered today so I’ll give the car a treatment this afternoon
