i experience a rear knock very now and again from the back of my W208 230k Sport.

I also noticed that the car sits lower than most of the CLK i see on the road, it does not have a lowered suspension as the front sits high, I would assume the springs and shocks are on their way but cannot see any fluid leak from the shocks.

Are they prone to go ? I have a sport model, are they the same across the classic, elegance and avanguard?

where is the best place to get? Euro car parts?

Thanks

Joe

Yes spot on,,with the springs its only the last 2" long bit that breaks off at the bottom, its always hard to work out height of cars, if the front ones are too long it will give the effect of the rear sitting low

Hi,
I would be buying the coil springs from MB and the shocks from Euro's, the coil springs do not have to be snapped to be worn, they could just be tired causing the car to ride low.
When does the the "knock" occur? taking up of power or over bumps?

Right guys,

I have had the car back and the problem happens to be as follow.

The knock is over the bumps and sometime cornering.. The rear anti roll bar bushes are only £ 7 for pair anyway from MB so I have ordered them.

The shocks are shot. Leaked badly, and that is the main reason for the bad handling.. However, I have one of those self levelling system. The springs however looked ok.

My first question is - are all the shocks compatible or do I have to get ones compatible with the self levelling? cos ringing around motor factors and all the ones they listed are for non self levelling model. Can I put standard shocks on them and do away with the self levelling?

Second - the 2 big balls on the side, assuming that is part of the self levelling system, they appear to be ok, and the springs are ok too, will the knackered shocks cause the car to sit low? or will it be something else?

Thanks

Hi,
I had self-levelling on an old Daimler XJ40 and removed it and replaced it with normal units I don,t see any reason why it can,t be done but never heard anyone doing it on a Mercedes.
Springs I would only buy genuine, just bought new springs for my AMG and from MB they were only about £50 each which is comparable with pattern items.
Have you checked the suspension fluid level? as these shocks are known to leak a bit and almost considered normal, as others will testify i,m sure.
Get the fluid level checked, and give the shocks a good wipe over and keep an eye on them for a while.
