I have recently purchased a 64 Plate E Class E300 Hybrid, with the intention of having a Towbar fitted, in order to tow my Caravan.

However, I have seen some quite worrying figures for the Towing Capacity for the Hybrid, suggesting that for a Braked or Un-braked Trailer, it is as low as 300Kg.

Surely this cannot be correct, can it?

(Moderators - sorry if this is in the wrong section, I could not determine which is the correct section to use for Towing)

There'll be a sticker in the drivers door reveal with the max gross weight, max front & rear axle weight & gross train weight. If you told the selling dealer what you wanted the car for, I'm sure there must be grounds for you to return it as not fit for intended purpose.

That would be a real result for many reasons...

@all,
Thank you for your replies.
I do have a manual and the incredibly low figure of 300kg is quoted. I have also read the other thread referred to above, in which, one of the posts quotes:
"The spec sheet published by Mercedes in the UK in 2015 states that the e300 hybrid has a unbraked towing capacity of 750kgs and a braked capacity of 2,100"

It is because of this conflicting information and the fact that my car was built just before 2015, that I am hoping that the figures have been changed / corrected. Is it true that a Spec Sheet was published in 2015 and does anyone have reference to it, so that I can obtain a copy.

@John
The figure quoted for the 2016 E300, would suit me fine. Pity that the 2014 model is not mentioned (plus the fact that I have never heard of that organisation)

As @EmilysDad has already said above, look at your Vehicle Identity Plate, subtract field 5 from 6 and you will be left with the maximum trailer weight your car is designed to pull!

wot he said

If there is no figure in 6, or no line 6, then you cant tow with that vehicle.

Although as an experienced tugger you would have known to check the plate before you bought the car to ensure it was fit for purpose, wouldn't you?? :geek::rolleyes::eek::D:D:cool:

Thank you all for your replies.

@keefysher: I can honestly say that it never occurred to me once, that such a large and capable car would not be able to tow anything other than a virtually empty trailer, so no I did not check, (wise after the event, hindsight etc!)

@Frontstep: I think your 2nd link covers it perfectly, Thanks.

@Rob76, Tony Dyson and malcolm210: I have seen all of those and it is what started to sow seeds of confusion, Thanks anyway.

@LostKiwi: No, as I am sure they will only point me to the VIN plate. (see answer to Frontstep above)
