    Since i think that's the thermostat housing I imagine its the coolant temperature sensor?

    W169, W124, w202, W203, KTM 250 EXC, VW T25 camper and a Polo in a pear tree
    That is the temp sensor used for the gauge on the dash - there is a seperate one for KE-Jetronic cars, although the one pictured is just K-Jetronic, and does not have one.
