Does anyone know what would be involved in upgrading to parameter steering from the standard setup on a 211? Maybe its a complete pump and rack in which case forget it, but i just wonder whether it's a little simpler than that and just a valve swap or something.
Anyone know?

I don't know what the changes are, but I do know that I much prefer the parameter to the normal power steering.
Does the Russian site show different racks?

The diagram is from the 211 E270 which does not have Parameter steering as standard. There is no other rack listed so it may be worth having a look at your rack and seeing if the connections are already there for the valve and loom.

there is a solenoid on some part of the pump bit. it increases the pressure.

if the guy in the factory installs the chip on the sensor on top if it, which measures the parameters that it should work within and therefore will register a fault when it stops, has anything about him, he will of course install a chip with the wrong parameters for that car and therefore when you leave the car on a hill, the corresponding initial lack of pressure when you immediatle turn the wheel, causes the sensor to register an out of parameters movement and shuts down the whole PAS for you, to save damage to the system.

****** annoying on Boxing day that was.

if he had put the right chip in for my car, it wouldn't have failed and hence wouldn't have spent 10days at the dealers over the new year weekend.

in the SLK it makes a big difference from those with and those without.

bang a bit of extra pressure in your front tyres. will help a bit.
