Colin from SAM/UNIT has 200CDi and he said his one has only ever given 58mpg as highest so your engine is slightly more powerfull but it still manages to give better economy???

thats very interesting,,,,,

Mine also has staggered wheels with 245 rear tyres which do not help, but maybe it has a lower drag co-efficient being a different shape from SAM-UNITS.

37 out of my 250D, have had 41 but it took a great deal of care.
Did on one Preston to Cornwall holiday journey and back see 45.5 out of the 190 2.5, also took care and concentration.

befor I hit the jam on the A1 and it fell to 43.5 by the time I got home. Not bad for a 320cdi

I get low 20`s around town in my E320 cdi and at best 35 on a run, but i carry a lot of tools and drive it like i stole it:shock: The wife has a 54 C200 komp and hers is worse round town and low 30`s on a run but again she drives at breakneck speeds everywhere:)

I use about 2-3 full tanks a week.
Tank to Tank using a mpg calculator, last week was 42mpg, this week ended at 48mpg. (Although the ever optimistic computer said I did 62mpg....)
This is with 113k miles on a 2001 C270 cdi.
Tyres always inflated correctly.
I have found Oil&filter changes make no difference to my mpg (obviously changed at correct times!)

All in all, I average about 45mpg, not great, but still affordable.

I will soon have slightly wider tyres on the back, will be interesting to see if it makes any difference.

Normal runs to work,50mpg, on a good run seen 58mpg.

C200 cdi, still do 140mph.

What more do you want?

155mph!

Of 2,148cc capacity, the unit is good for a modest 122bhp which is less than some diesel SEAT Ibizas are packing, so any expectations of effortless torque and general outside-lane omnipotence should be managed downwards. More impressive than the saloons 11.7-second sprint to 60mph and 129mph terminal velocity are the cars fuel economy figures. The saloon is capable of averaging nearly 48mpg, CO2

Oh yeh and 0 to 60 quicker than my old discovery?

05' E220 w211 classic
05' W211 E220cdi 150bhp. 42 mpg around town and 50mpg on long run. I found keeping it around 60-65 mph was the most economical, motorway driving at 70-75 mph is a little sore on the mpg, Ive also check the computer with brim to brim and both times it was within 0.5 of witch is pretty accurate i think

Since using millers SP4 and the warmer weather my daily commute there and back (Helensburgh into Clydebank) 48mpg. The car on a spirited run will return 40mpg-43mpg. Used to be about 38mph but the millers SP4 and better weather have raised it.

Fantastic for a car as large as mine.

ML 270 Cdi and S type Jag 2.7 Diesel Sport Saloon, and now a VW diesel GT golf
MPG for ML 270

I have a W 163 ML 270 2002 Auto with 98000 miles on clock.
Brim to brim covering most of my driving, to work and back 45 miles total with runs to town etc.
I live quite rural with almost no dual carriageway running but also no queues nor tail backs and the Air Con is NEVER off.
My usual consumption is 32 to 33 per gallon.
I have seen 37 once in a blue moon and when towing my caravan (large twin axle) it goes to 20 ish.

I think it is quite good for what it is.

I got 32.2mpg (calculated) out of my SLK from the last tank. That included about 100 miles of motorway driving. Driving locally I get mid to upper 20s.

The Cherokee on the other hand is another matter. Urban driving in that I get about 14-16 so it's a good job it's on LPG!

i once met a guy who used to convert vehicles to lpg. he CLAIMED that he had converted many early landrover and other DIESELS to use LPG. he claimed that whilst the diesel consumption was reduced by only 20% as it still needed the diesel to run, it also increased power by a whopping 50%!!! has anyone else ever heard of this? or was this guy talking a big load of BS?

He's talking BS about the power gains.

Some companies will convert diesel engines to run on lpg but I've never seen one on a normal road car.

seen it done with natural gas, we have a trial going on with a DAF cf converted by these guys, web link explains the dualfuel process.

without giving away any secrets, it works well. It is not used for power increase, but cost reduction & emmissions reduction.

I've had my W220 S350 (3.7 litre petrol) for 7 weeks, in this time I've covered 3,263 miles (60/40 dual carriageway/city).
During this time the car has consumed 553 litres of fuel including this mornings 76.4 litre fill to the brim, which at 4.55 litres per gallon equates to 26.85 MPG.

I regularly check brim to brim figures and they have always been circa 25-27 MPG, which is the figure I budgeted for when I bought the car.

The OBC is fairly accurate as it tells me since reset the car has travelled 3,263 miles and has achieved 25.9 MPG at an average speed of 34 MPH, but I have yet to see the individual trip computer record any more than 22 MPG over trips of around 80 miles per day on my comute to work, these trips are predominately between 7-30 to 8-45 am and 4-45 to 6-00pm.

Overall, for a 3.7 litre petrol V6 propelling a 2 ton car through fairly heavy traffic and one which is certainly not driven gently, I am extemely satisfied with the fuel consumption from my Merc.:)

What I am unhappy about is the cost of petrol which has increased by 10p per litre in my area over the last seven weeks since I sold my E320CDi.
