I had a call from a alarm company who's alarms are wired to the Police station. I said that I was not very interested but I allowed someone to call (for the first time ever) he showed me all of the things, and the price, so I said thanks I would let him know,,then the problems start in that he must know by today,,I told I never buy anything without thinking about it, Well then he said it will cost more if I have to think too long,, I said it will not, as I will not buy from you, and he left

This is exactly the sort of thing i mean!

Who trains these people?
They would do much better if they made a polite, respectful pitch and then left you with the contact info to mull it over yourself.
How many of us will back away from something if we think we are being railroaded into it?...Most i suspect!..Thats all lost sales for them, not very good for a man/woman who intends to carve a living by selling things i would have thought.

I have also signed up to TPS, but by the time you say that they have already disturbed you.

Electric inner gates and someone to screen your calls sounds like the best idea:D:D

When I used to get unsolicited calls, I would just say - 'Hang on' - put the phone down, and leave it.!

I once did that just before going out for the evening. Got back about midnight and could hear a tinny voice saying "Hello? Hello? Hello?" I answered and said "I've thought about it - No thank you" and hung up.!! Must have cost them a few quid :lol:

I wonder what life is like, for a telephone plastic window salesman

My OH, with a straight face, tells them we are being re-possessed and being kicked out onto the street any day  that shuts them up

An uncle of mine used to invite sales people in and get the kids to sit close to them on the sofa. After a few minutes one would start scratching, then the other would say something like 'leave it you know it makes it weep and spread and become infectious' and generally ham it right up to the point the guy left, no order in hand but an itchy feeling under his collar :p

having tried sales for myself (and failed miserably as i have a conscience!) they are ALWAYS trained to close the deal on the day at the time of the visit. the theory is that if they give you a price, you can then go and compare prices if they leave it with you to think over. if you sign up there and then, the theory is you wont bother getting other prices, wont realise you have been ripped off and everyone has made a big fat commission at your expense! sounds like you guys would have loved me knocking on your door!:lol:

reason so many are so abrupt, blunt and pushy though is that they are all paid by commission, so have to make sales to earn a living. the companies do this so that they dont have wages, national insurance, sick pay etc to pay as their sales staff are self employed. if they only realised however, that by giving the sales staff a decent wage, car expenses etc, they would actually in my opinion sell more as the sales staff would be polite and reasonable, instead of having to become agressive bullys to try and clinch deals so they can feed their family!
