What should I buy? C230? C240?

I am a 40 year old newbee that has always dreamed of owning a M-B. I am in the market for a 2001 to 2003, C230 or C240, Sedans. Is there anything that would make it unwise for me to buy either of these cars? Are the owners happy with them? I would really appreciate your opinions.

If you want economy - go for the C230
If you want refinement - go for the C240
The fuel consumption for C320 and C240 are very similar, and second hand market C320 is only about £500-1000 more expensive. Find a good C320, and you will not regret it.

Seconded, the C320 is the one to go for. Great engine and you wont regret it.
