New here...and old thread, I know, but if anyone is still hanging around I'd appreciate the input. I have a 2002 E430 Sport that's ready for new rubber. It has the 17X8 Sport wheels (as shown in Ringway's above post) ET 37. I currently have 235/45 tires and thinking about 265/40 to replace them. The 265/40 has the same rolling diameter, so no difference in speedo, but my concern is potential rubbing with the 30mm difference in width. Anyone have any experience with this setup? Will it work without rubbing?

I think 265 is too wide for an 8" rim - the recommended minimum rim width for 265 is 9.0".
I run 245/45/17 on mine and they don't rub unless I hit a decent sized bump with some lock on. There's no way you'd get away with 265 on the front.

As above , 245 is max for 8" , so 245 45 17.

Thanks guys. I'm glad that I posted this...and glad that you replied. I actually didn't even think about wheel width when considering new tires. I actually knew better, but it has been several years since I considered upsizing. I also have a '90 300E that I +1d in 2001 and your responses reminded me that wheel width is definitely a factor to consider. I think I'll just stick with the 235s. I don't want any potential rubbing issues.
