What Size Tyres are you running on your W210 E-Class?

I want to put some 245/40/18 tyres on my AMG II Alloys which are 18"/8"/ET31.

My last 210 (same sports chassis as this one is being returned to after being lowered) had 17" Sador wheels with 235's on. I've looked at the tyre bibles and the like but can't get a definite answer. Is anyone else running 245's on 8J rims?

TIA,

Paul.

235 is the max listed at a 40 profile on a 210, there are other models using a 245 tyre on a 8j rim, so no problem with that

235 x 40 will give a sidewall of 94mm and 245 x 40 98mm so nothing in it, hardly the difference of new to used tyres.

they may rub on full lock, but probably not

My W210 is on 235x40x18 with no problems at all.

My lowered S210 usually runs 235/40x18 fronts & 265/35x18 rears on 8x18 et 35 & 9x18 et35 respectively. However taking these off to refurb them I stuck on a set of 8x18 et32 AMG reps all round with 245/40x18 and they rubbed badly on the front part of the front arch and bumper where they meet.

That was the bit I had some doubts on ;)

Yes, in my case the 3mm lower offset combined with an extra 10mm of tyre width was just enough to create an issue.

How low is your S210? Mine was very low indeed but I have just ordered the kit to restore it to the standard sports chassis (which I assume is the same as Avantgarde set up?).

I don't think all is lost yet, Malcolm. It depends how low Benzslammer's car is?

You are the only two who have put their head on the block on this question to date. Everyone else (including on a few other forums) is hiding behind a cushion on this one.

On my 124 I had this problem where the tyres just touched the inner liner, I stuck a 2mm thick something or other on the stop, and all was fine.

In your case they are 10mm wider or 5mm each side, the sidewall height we know is only 4mm more.

We know its OK to have 245 on 8j rims as the 211 does

Its splitting hairs I think and it should not be a problem, if the tyre just touches the inner arch, just stick something on the stop, and how many times do we have these cars on full lock, only when starting off, you cannot drive at speed on full lock.

Anyway I hope it all works out, the ride will be a touch smoother :D

Another way to think about it, the difference in width between 235 and 245 is a 10mm wider tyre. 5mm extra tyre overhang each side of the wheel rim.

It will also make a diiference to your speedo readout, as above calculator link.

About 1½ mph at 30, so it will read a touch more accurate I think

2005 CL500.
My owners manual lists 245/40 18 and 275/35 18 for the E55 W210. The offsets are 31 and 35 respectively on 8" and 9" wheels.

Ive always understood the W/S210 E55 tyre size to be 235/40x18 front and 265/35x18 rear ?
The picture I posted above is of the car with those sizes.
The 245s rubbed with even the slightest suspension deflection in a straight line on the point where the outer wheel arch meets the bumper but cleared everything on full lock.

Back when the cars were new,it was common practice to roll the wheel arch to stop the tyre from catching the wing, not easy on a 14 year old car ;)

You car is beautiful Benzslammer :D:D

I think the bottom line is.....its close and there are a number of variables that make these few mm crucial.
Firsly of course offset of the wheel, secondly the tyre. Different makes of tyre even of the same size are slightly different in shape, i.e. some are "squarer" shouldered than others and obviously a new tyre has more material than one that has done some mileage. Then there is the factor of each car being ever so slightly different, bumper fit or maybe a pattern wing and of course small suspension differences due to different makes of spring, pad thickness, spring & shock absorber stiffness, weight of car due to engine/options etc.
It certainly is not an exact science and ultimately the only way is to try them on your actual car once your new suspension has settled and if you get a bit of contact you maybe able to fine tune it out with a thicker spring pad (mines on #1s by the way and arches are rolled).

That's what I thought too...the Alloy Wheels Direct lists them too...but the handbook says 245 and 275...go figure.

Edit: MB are the ones who seem to be confused. The online manual states 245 and 275...my nice hard back copy says 235 and 265...so...as you were.
