Still in love with my E200 W124 :)

Noticed that the fan didnt kick in in heavy traffic until 3/4 on gauge. No problems but wondered if that was usual

Thanks, Keith

Engine fans kick in at 80C (visco) electric rad fans come in at 100C

Hi

I assume the fan control circuit has some form of hysterisis built into it? If so, at what temperature does the fan cut-out?

Are the cut-in and cut-out temperatures the same for most Mercedes vehicles?

The range is around 10-15 degrees for cutting in and out.

All MBs models are the same for when they cut in.

Get the engine up to 85c, hold a carrot and feed it into the blades of the engine fan, if it stops it needs a new coupling, if it works and slices it up then do enjoy you lunch

Why not? Maybe a more hands-on approach is needed - like how to check an electrified fence is actually working.

Hi

Actually testing an electric fence is quite harmless although I wouldn't recommend it for anyone fitted with a heart pacemaker. It's not true that the current will melt your boots or send you rocketing twenty feet into the air. The Avengers have a lot to answer for.

yes theres the viscous fan thats behind the radiator that works off the engine directly and theres 1 or 2 fans in front of the radiator that are electrically controlled

Somewhere I have seen info on a mod to put a resistor in parrallel with the radiator fan sensor to get them to cut in a bit earlier - anyone remember where this is?

the fans in front are for Air Conditioning, so a car without AC won't have them,

the viscous coupling fan cools the radiator only

this is from my limited knowledge of mercs, so i could be wrong of course.

cheers
