How do I tell whether my car is a W123 or a W124?

The first 3 numbers are 210
The first 3 letters are WDB
Then you have a W210 (Unless it’s an estate and then it’s an S210)

A wonderful car to drive let down by serious rust...:(

2005 CL500.
You have an E230 (not 230E).

Thanks Blobcat. Mine isn't an estate, it's just an ordinary 4 door saloon. Your right about the rust, although mine doesn't seem to be to bad, nothing at the moment that I can't sort out. Glad I checked what W my car is as I was told it was a W124, as I am trying to fine a workshop manual for this car that is stupid money and you don't have to download. It seems these are like hens teeth.

W210 is pretty well represented here, I did well over 100K miles in my E320CDI. Absolutely loved it

We have an E240 W210 (estate so technically S210).
Cost us peanuts and it's been back and forth to France for 5 years now.
Very capable comfortable long distance cruiser and load lugger.

The 230E was a W124 but it was called an E Class when Mercedes started to change its model designations in 1993 for the 1994 model year. The W210 E Class was launched in 1996 so it is just possible that yours was an old W124 from 1995 that was a late registration. However, if your VIN starts with 210 then it is the later E Class.

Thanks for the pictures. The W210 is defiantly mine.

How do I close threads down?

You don't need to, they stay as a resource for others - we've a huge pile of them :)

And sometimes they miraculously spring to life again may years later
