Hi

I am thinking of selling my w124 sportline cabrio 96 N car. Has full Merc dealer history, 102k miles, genuine 17 inch amg alloys and I am the second owner from new. I paid 16.5k for it through a specialist and then had to put in a new wiring loom ! Its black/blue metallic (original factory colour) with black leather. Also kept the original 8 hole alloys.

I know its hard to say in this climate and without photos but was keen to get a view from the forum on what it would be worth if I was to sell.

You don`t say when you bought the car or general condition but if it was within the last two or three years I`d say you probably paid top money....doubt you`d get it all back today. £14K +..?

The old aphorism regarding the price of an item-'whatever someone will pay' holds stongly with w124 cabrios- prices seem to vary wildly depending where you look- I did scan across an ad in a glossy mag recently with a 25K tag under an E320 cabrio. Was incredibly low miles if I recall- but most prices seem 11-17K in traders listings- privately is open to speculation. Condition and 'provenance' (service record/ owner history essentially) seem the biggest parameters

I'd hang on to it if you can. Come the end of the recession (when's that???), good W124 cabriolet's values will harden again. It's the rest of us with "moderns" that'll be losing big money long term...

Whats it worth

All

Thanks for the comments. My plan is to hold on to it but if I needed to sell then I will have to...and thats why I wanted to understand what price range I would get. To answer the various other questions I bought it in excellent condition - see pic and then replaced 1 front wing (from rust) and got professional spray on lower plastic panels/bumpers so all matches. It has air con, drivers memory seat, heated seats upgraded radio plus Blaupunkt original
