Hi everyone!

Have just signed up and i'm after a bit of info from the people in the know! Two friends and myself bought ourselves a 1987 420SE V8 last year and fixed her up to a standard that passed the mot with the sole purpose of doing a charity road trip around Europe! The good 'ol girl did over 1,600 miles in 3 days and the only thing that went wrong was a blown taillight bulb! The problem is, now we are back we sadly don't have the space to keep her anymore but we are finding it very hard to sell. Is this normal? Granted the 'ol girl could maybe do with a couple of new parts here and there but nothing excessive at all. We bought her for £400 with a lot of work needing to be done to her and can't seem to get any interest at all!!

Should I give up and scrap her (would break my heart doing it) or do I hang on for a buyer?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy

Its a 4.2 V8, 21 years old, probably a bit rough round edges..

You paid £400 plus work

I think you would do Very well if you get your money back. Its not exactly what people are looking for nowadays..

Try e-bay with a reserve...

Its done you proud so it was worth it :)

looks like anice car, good colour combinations (blue & cream) and seems to be in good condition and a few years ago (pre fuel & road tax sky high prices) would have got you the money back no problem but being 4.2 V8 why would anyone want it other than for spares

real shame as its a superb car

id ebay it

or dismantle and ebay it for more money but alot more hassle

Indeed, I am very proud she stood up so well to the drive! I have tried it on ebay a couple of times already with a reserve of £500. Got plenty of watchers but no bids. Think I might have to chance it and just stick it up for auction and see what happens!

Very true and I agree about running costs nowadays. I'm not too fussed about making the money back in all honesty but it seems such a shame that such a good car is now only worth scrap/spares money. Just doesn't seem right to strip or scrap it to be honest as it's done us so proud!

Two way's to look at it.

It's either a 21 year old dinosaur that nobody wants and would be better off scrapping. Or it's a 21 year old car that's just covered 1600 miles without a hiccup.

Wonder how many of today's technical marvels will still be viable transport in 21 years.

Today's car are awesome in technical ability, but depreciate like never before and soon become to expensive to fix.

I have friends who are literally chucking away 6-7 year old cars because of hugely expensive turbo/electrical problems. Other friends are still driving there 20 year old bangers because there's not a lot to go wrong!

The mileage quoted just above is pretty much accurate, bar a few miles I have done recently since the picture was taken. It does have bits & pieces of history with it, the chap I got it off claimed it had full Mercedes Service History but he had lost a lot of the paperwork to do with the car....believe what you want from that, I did!
The paperwork that is with it does point towards it being looked after though. I'm in Crawley, West Sussex and the car is currently stored at my business unit which is just outside Crawley.

Sorry to hear of your problems with the wheels. What did you go for, have you got them all sorted now? Let me know if I can help out at all. :)

Drop me an email if you like regarding the headunit but I think you will struggle to get that spec for that money unless you get an ebay jobbie from the Far East which in my experience is always a bit hit and miss :(
