whats my symptoms point to

my car loses power while driving, and then rev counter surges eratically, ive already posted about my problem and i cant seem to get it fixed. its happening every day now, ive being on the net searching everywhere and whats coming up is it could be the alternator, fuel pump,or fuel pump relay so im going to take all these parts of my other c class w202,and see what happens would i be going in the right direction by doing this,if someone asked you, my car loses power while driving and idles eraticly,whats the first thing that comes to your head,please post your ideas because ive to go back to the drawing board, and start again, with the problems im having, thanks as always for your help, regards thomas oh my car is a c200 95 123,000 miles

thanks for the help so far,ive a c200 automatic 95 as a donor car will the pms go in to my 95 c200 manual i wont be in work saturday so ill give it a go again, and ill change the regeneration valve while im at it and hopefully ill get somwhere

you need to check the part number & as far as i know you could have a bosch or a siemens part ........the regeneration valve will prob be ok

If your idling is erratic I would suggest swapping over the OVP relay from your donor car as this is the most common symptom of the relay breaking down and if it is a Seimens part it is almost certainly faulty.

thanks for the replys,tommorow im up at 7am, so ill have a go and try to sort it out, im also puting a new drivers door on, so ill be busy, ill keep yous posted hopefully all will be well thanks again for your help i really apreciate it

ok took roofless advice,and had a look at the re generation valve and it wasnt connected to the tube that comes from the throttle body,so maybe thats what it was all along, im going out for a drive now, so ill see how it goes

ok went on a long drive yesterday, and it happened about 5 times, while going motorway speeds, so this morning i changed the fuel pump,fuel pump relay,fuel filter and regeneration valve and its still not going away,its a little lumpy on idle aswell i was trying to change the cps aswell couldnt get at it any tips on this,so anyone have more ideas for me im totally ouy of ideas thanks.

it's looking more like the pms unit to me :( when it's faulty it take out the coil packs & this could be the cause of the idle prob ...i had this with my e200 with the same engine & it would run for days even weeks then do it 4 or 5 times in a day at will & without any warning ..........still i hope i am wrong

oh i was going to change that aswell,but the pms unit in the donor car had no mercedes details on it i think it was a refurbished one so i dont know if itl work in mine,it has no writing on it at all not even a part number i might have to leave it in to a mercedes specialist im totally stumped

it can be very hard to find the fault without star ect :( do you get a miss fire up to 3000rpm

no nothing at all, when it happens the revs drop under 1 and the engine shakes violently and i turn the engine off,and starts back up first time everytime,as if nothing happened its a head scratcher

if you pull the two large plugs out & look for any sign of water damage esp on the tips of the pins in the plugs ...a rusty brown color

Does your car have a cat and if so have you checked it isnt blocked....had a very similar problem last week with an S40 T4 volvo, it belonged to my son and he sold it a few years ago and he bought it back recently..cos he always liked it...
