Silly question time, but in my W211 inside the glove box to the left is a set of vertical what looks like metal vanes or fins. A pound coin fits perfectly between each one. Is that what it is a a coin holder or something more special like a glove box climate control thingy?

In the 202 that I had some while back it had a similar thing in the glove box and it took me ages to find out what it was for ,It was for coins as you rightly say and some larger fins for fuel cards and breakdown cards .

They should have built a money box into the SL 230 that will hold several £k to pay for the normal running

I guess they are also for holding the extra two batteries that you better keep in the car in case the ones in the key burn out. You manually open the right door (non driver side), change your batteries, harmonise the key and start your engine

An integrated money box should be standard on all Mercedes to prepare for the inevitable rust repairs

It would need to be quite big.......
