remember that service intervals and tyre pressures also effect your mpg...

a clogged up air filter means less air gets in and worse mpg as you have to compensate for it with extra fuel...
Check tyre pressure reguarily, 2K since service, not really impressed with fuel ecconomy, took out for 100 mile round trip, did not get over 38 miles per gallon, drops rapidly in 30-40 limits, think i need to take car to merc garage, have been told software may be problem or air mass flow meter!!!!

Heh heh! Amazingly enough, not a speck of the dreaded r-word on the old girl. I could charge around the streets of London and dodge anything on the motorway in ways that I can't in the S class. At first I made stately progress in the middle lane in the W220 and let the tailgating maniacs hurtle to their doom in the outside lane; then I twigged that if I sat at about 83-85 m.p.h. in the o/s lane I'd mostly be left alone except by the odd deranged BMW whom I wouldn't deign to be associated with anyway. For once I'm going to leave this S class badged - it procures respect. But it's difficult to park, even with Parktronic, awkward for the driver to get into and out of, even with the programmed seat & steering wheel movement, and the boot size is ... pitiful! Not to mention storage space - there's nowhere to put anything! And what about £650 each for shock absorbers, of which I've needed 3 already? And what happened to that warbly rumble you get in any other V8? Why did the M-B engineers tune it out in favour of a highly-strung, over-bred whine?

So overall not ecstatic, but my customers love it, and we can hold conversations or listen to the radio or music at speed without any strain. But classic ... it ain't

There are pockets in the doors for storage, a centre armrest which takes lots, a glove box, Nets for maps and so on, and numerous cubby holes in the tunnel and dash. Did you have a pantechnicon before? As for the boot it is 500 litres, large for a rear drive saloon and as large as the huge Porsche Cayenne 4x4. Which rear drive car gives you more?

As for getting in and out, I am amazed at your comments. The wheel pulls away from you as you exit, and the seat slides gently back to make exit easy, far easier than most cars. And when you get back in the wheel and seat return to your chosen memorised position. Hard to see how it could be easier.

My C Class Coupe (2.5 V6) averages about 26 to 27 on a normal working week. Thats with 17 mile each way commute, last three or so miles pretty much stop start.
On a longer run if keeping speed near legal and sensible then can sneak over the 30MPG.

Thats good,do you comute often? In heavy traffic?

50 MPH all little lanes today due to diversion. Into Exeter ½ hour driving in center (busy) 9 stops on the idustrial estate and back home, My SL320 would have done 28mpg in the same conditions, My V70R averages 22mpg.

51mpg on a long gentle motorway cruise
It's dropped back to 46 mpg now but I still have done over 500 miles on a single tank.

I like long tank range as I don't like filling stations ...
