I thought it was time to get my rear wheel archs done on the slk before the winter!

I had Two estimates off different bodyshops.

1) Remove bumper/side skirts and treat and spray both quarter panels £550 All in

2) I was reccomended a chap by a guy (who does smart repairs) that are two big for him.

Remove and treat rust and spray both quater panels (no bumper or skirt off) £200 all in.
Car is booked in for 2nd sept
Before pics enclosed

given the experience ive just had with the wheelarches on my 210, id have gone for the bumper off repair. but not at that price! far too expensive. the rust spreads along the joint between the bumper and panel, or at least it did on mine! assuming the bumper of an slk is held on in a similar fashion to the 210 e class, theres only 3 nuts to remove and its off! £350 to remove and refit your bumper? what a rip off!

It will chip again he has only repainted the arches , these need to be rubber seam sealed to stop the stones from sandblasting the paint off again.. but if ur a careful dirver they may last, suggest plenty of waxoyl on inside and ourtside .. should also have taped the inner wheel arch or at least painted it black again...

Sounds a good product, you could mask off the outer edges and paint the inner lip with the clear one..

What about the 3M Scotchguard paint protection film, you can get that from ebay in various sizes?

Info on it here and here.

Mine goes in today to MB Glasgow for assessment of the rear arch, there's now only 2 months left on the original 8 year warranty.

Cheers

Alan

Scotch guard

Many thanks for the scotch guard tip

It got me thinking !!

I have some very tough clear vynil tape, Ive stuck it onto the inner lip of the wheel arch.I will see how long it lasts.

Stick on tape isnt a good idea, especially over a repainted surface as it can cause moisture retention, where the tape isnt properly stuck down, and may cause your wheel arch to corrode much quicker

that paint job looks pretty poor and has no clearcoat? I did a much better job myself and with no overspray. Ive caked the arches now in waxoyl. Cost me for paint and all prep stuff and used my compressor
