I'm in the vinegar strokes of buying an E320CDI Estate (2007/W211) AV (hopefully!!) but short list also has a SPORT variant. I'm in two minds about the 18 inch wheels from both a ride quality/pothole risk and tyre cost perspective.

Can I change the wheels to 17 or 16 inch alloys?

Advice welcome (but please explain slowly - I'm a bear of limited brain!)

Thanks All...

It will depend on the clearance needed for the brake callipers.

My pre-facelift E320 CDi Avantgarde had 16" wheels. Not sure if the brake calipers are the same/different to the facelift sport.

The sports have larger calipers but you'd get off with a 17inch wheel but don't.

The ride is still great and tyres are dearer, but they last ages as the 211 set up seems kind on tyres.

Did you drive the 220cdi as well?

I'm trying a E220 and an E320 (both AV ) on Monday. Then it's make your mind up time! I'd really like the auto tailgate as it seems so wacky and ott (in a cool way!!) but they seen an unusual addition... Do I just need to wait longer???
