Rubish, standard wheels are nearly always the same size,,its only when you get fancy wheels that you have wider on the rear

Amazing how little these guys know. As Malcolm says - some fancy wheel setups did stagger the sizes but most do not. The higher end 203 C class tended to have wider on the back but it was really just for fashion and made little if any difference to the handling.

Interesting idea though. With 245's all round, whilst it looks great, my car tends to tramline on worn roads, and at parking speeds, the power steering can become overwhelmed at times.

I reckon that this wouldn't happen so much if I dropped the front to 225s, plus the extra drag of wider tyres has a detrimental effect on economy, especially in the wet.

I should add before I get jumped on that I am fully aware that MB didn't do staggered on the E and the wheels wouldn't match so, I'm not saying that I'd actually do it or even recommend it - just an interesting thought.

Lemmie guess - then they went on to discuss prices of new wheels and tyres?

Ignore it.

i have heard of this before but the wheels that came with the car first day had a certain diameter we will just say 15inch and now you have 18inch so for every rotation of the wheel its out by the difference

i think the difference is so little that its not worth worring about it .

once your car is running right and the car puts a smile on your face every time you drive it then i would be a happy camper

As long as you keep the rolling radius the size as it was at the factory i.e. if you go up a wheel size you go down on the tyre profile a size. There is a wheel and tyre size calculater link that has been posted at some time in the past.
My W202 C43 has staggered size wheels and these were standard from the factory and 17" AMG's wheels were an option on certain models in the W202 range from quite early on in the model life.

I don't know what model you drive, but from what you have said, it sounds to me like the guy was only pointing out a fact to you. All the W209 CLK's have staggered wheels as standard, many more MB's and other makes have them as standard too. If you have changed the rolling radius, then you will have altered your speedo reading, gearing & MPG figures etc. Without knowing what your standard wheel size was compared to what you have now, it is hard to tell how great the difference is, if any at all. If all of this is news to you, why blame the guy for sharing his knowledge with you, unless he started thrusting wheel catalogues under your nose what harm has he done?
