Hi,

Can someone tell me the original wheel and tyre sizes for the convertible?

I have just purchased the car which has low profile tyres and cheap oversized alloys. I am more interested in comfort than performance and wish to restore it to the original spec.

I assume it had 8 hole Merc alloys originally, but would they have been 15 or 16 inch, and what tyre sizes?

Thanks

Tim

Hi Tim, if yours is a sportline spec should come with 7j x 15 8 holes with 205/60/15's or if normal spec 6.5 x 15 and 195/65/15's.

Check your history, at the back page it will tell you what spec yours originally came with (number codes).

P.s: As in my dad's one, options included 'sportline' debadge. IMHO check history as not all sportline's came with badges so quick check on history book will tell all.

Thanks E320c.

Unfortunately, I have no documentation. The car was imported from Singapore about 18 months ago. Apart from not having heated seats it seems well equipped with a black leather interior. I will try MB in Singapore for the history. Any idea how I can tell if it is the sportsline spec?

Thanks

G Man, Thanks very much. What a great resource!

I now have confirmation that the car was originally registered in Singapore, and it still has all the original spec. Unfortunately, the wheels are not mentioned but from looking around elsewhere it appears that most of the convertibles had 8 hole alloys as original equipment in 1993.

The details for my e320 convertible do not mention a sports chassis, but interestingly I also have a 1990 300D which does have a sports chassis that I didn't know about!

I have only recently purchased the e320 convertible which had been standing for 18 months. It's passed the MOT without any work, but I have an intermitent misfire at the moment. It might just need a good blast down the motorway to clear out sediment but if that doesn't work I shall have to take a close look at the engine compartment wiring harness.

Thanks again for the VIN information.

The 500E had 16" wheels in the same 8-hole style as the standard ones. They might be a good compromise between 15s and what you have now if you did want bigger wheels

The flat face 15-holes from the earlier W124s look great as well and I think they stay looking good longer than the 8 holes. Really early 15-holes are forged rather than cast - it'd be nice to have a set of those

But I think your plan of going back to what was on the car originally is a good idea
