I have just purchased a SL320 year October 2000 and very nice it is too.
But I need help, Can anyone tell me did this particular model come with an alloy as a spare as standard or indeed an option.

My spare is a steel size 145/40/17, my fronts 145/40/18. and rears are 175/35/18 this doesnt seem to make sense to me. And also should I have sepearte bolts for a steel wheel?

I think somebody is trying to put one over on me and a little help is needed.

Thanks:confused: Teresa

With a steel spare you should have different wheel bolts (shorter). They could be either in the tool roll or in my case fitted into a plastic carrier in the steel wheel.
I think your tyre sizes are out slightly as I've not come across a 145 width 18" tyre.

The steel spare wheel is standard 17", you cant have a larger one as it will not fit into the space allowed for it.
When used, care is needed when driving, and it should be replaced ASAP.

Talking of wheel sizes on R129 SLs are the front wheels narrower than the rears and when ordering a set of new AMG replicas and tyres what offset etc should I be asking for? Any advice greatfully received...

Pls have a look at the attached as all are listed and most have the correct offset.

Just be very careful with aftermarket wheels as they don't always work on MB's as they do not center via the hub.
