When is a free MOT not a free MOT?

I don't know if anyone else has come across this but when I had the car serviced last July the dealer said my next MOT would be free (i.e. included) but when I tried to book it in today that offer has now become "you'll have to pay for the MOT sir, but we will then allow the MOT cost against your next service".

Not a massive issue perhaps, except it isn't what I was told when I paid for the service - oh, and who says I am taking it there for a service again this year?

There also seems to be a separate confusion becaose some cars which have a MB service then get "free" (included) MOT protection of £750 if the car fails the MOT, but others don't.

By contrast, I phoned my MB dealer (Hindhead) to book the car for an MOT. Couldn't get a Saturday morning appointment but instead asked if they would collect the car, do the MOT, then drop it back. 'Certainly sir' and the total cost £20.00.

That's great service and a bargain.

There's no such thing as a free lunch ..... ;)

I've had the car serviced there in the past, maybe they're just encouraging me to return. No free lunch, but an incentive.
