Older Citroen Now :-(
Hi All,
Due to my recent encounter with a car wash I am mirror less on my drivers door..
My mirror does not appear to be broken but was left dangling by the wires.
I noticed when I came to disconnect the wires the mirror was quite warm..
I have NOT got my heated rear screen turned on so can I ask you if the mirror is supposed to be warm all the time? Is it thermostatically controlled (heated when the air temp is cool) or has the car wash machine made it throw a wobbler?
Thanks in advance.

The mirrors are thermostatically controlled so are on permanently

All of the different models work in different ways and temps,
most are turned on and off in the range of 5c and 15c and CAN operated

Generally the older models worked with the rear screen and the newer ones below 5'C

That is correct I just could not get my head around it this morning,, the CAN in general came along in 2000 so roughly car models (not build) up to then are wired to rear window and after that the CAN BUS

My 1989 124's mirrors heat up without the rear screen being switched on.

On my car the mirrors heating is linked to the washer nozzles heaters.

Hi,
In the case of the W202 & W210 (before the facelift 2000) they were permantly fed with 12V with the ignition on, behind the mirror glass itself there is a temp operated switch, which switches the mirror heater element on/off according to its operating temp.
The facelifted 202 and the later prefacelift 210's were capable of switching the mirror heaters on/off by the CAN according to temp but where they retained the sane mirror glass as the earler models, the power was intially turned on by the CAN but would only heat the mirrors if the temp operated switch closed, this gave these models effectively two temp operated switches in the circuit.
In the case of the facelifted 210's and later cars such as the 203, 209, 211 were only switched from the can, as the glass had been designed without the switch on the glass.
