The fort at Cherbourg harbour ?
We have a winner!
It's the easterly most fort at Cherbourg, Fort d'ile Pelée.
An impressive lump of defense when seen from the 'business' side . . .
And since we're on the subject of defense, here's my offering:
That second one looks like it's been on the wrong end of some significant target practice!
Correct . . about 75 years ago.
Point du Hoc?
We have a winner!

Somewhere wet . . . ?
It were 23C on that day, folk on the coach complained the sun was too bright
I'm going with the road to Ardno across the loch from Inverary. I might even go so far as to say it's by the lovely Thistle Guest House?

Must admit, it was a beautiful part of the world I'd not seen before. The ferry from McInroy's Point to Hunter's Quay c/w escorting dolphins added to the experience. Lot of property for yer money too. Free university, prescriptions makes me think about retirement
That is indeed a fantastic part of the world, seems like something untouched around every corner, Otter Ferry particularly beautiful I think....
Not quite Otter Ferry in the pic, nor the Thistle Guest House, but getting warmer
