I've only been a member for 2 months but hardly ever see any threads about ML's or GL's on here. Is there a separate forum for these?
I'm interested as I plan to change the Toyota 4 x 4 for a Merc at some point in the future.

The older ML appeals because I think the latest is just too big for daily use.
Anything to watch out for on a 270 cdi?

Would really like the new GLK but I'm not sure if it's coming to the UK.

How much bigger is the new ML?

Reason I ask is I recently bought a rear shelf cover off a W164 to fit ion mine and its much narrower to does that mean the inside is smaller? (at the back at least?)

Ok,

I googled it

Length Width height

Old shape ML 4638 1840 1815

New Shape ML 4788 1911 1820

So the new one is 15cm longer and 7cm wider :) :)

My ML270 is still going strong, almost 8 years Ive owned it and cannot think of anything else to replace it, in fact considering ditching my A-Class for perhaps another ML :) .. Great cars, with the fuel crisis getting worse, the ML270 is the most fuel efficient of the bunch (except Diesel is more costly now, except here in Germany/Spain, where there still keeping it below petrol). Depends on your mileage, as A210AMG has pointed out before, the petrol ML's can be cheaper to pickup, so could work out just as cost effective.

Thanks for all your thoughts.
Anything to watch out for? (I would buy off a dealer)
Assume follow the general rule of mid-2004 onwards to ensure galvanised and
up to date wiring?

Thanks
Peter

I had a total of 17 over 17 years  But that was when fuel was cheap and cheerful. I felt elated when - and if - I managed to achieve double figures.!

But the sound of a V8 is music to the ears :D

Looks like you can take your pick at the moment, prices seem to be low, couldnt believe on Direct Mercedes, you can pickup an almost new GL320cdi for ~38Grand!!! ML's, starting around 7grand from Mercedes direct!!!

Thanks for all your thoughts.

Because owners seem to love them and don't come here much to complain?
Most of the postings seem pretty chuffed. I had an ML270cdi for a couple of years and really liked it. Only sold it because I got the itch to change which I have never been much good at resisting. Fabulously comfortable on a really long run. Did 6.5 hours at a stretch once and felt fine.

Amazing :) ... didnt know man could survive for so long in a car

Well you may think it normal but I did the same length journey in an early 203 C class I owned and when I arrived it felt like my backside was on fire. I found the ML the most comfortable of all the cars I've owned on very long runs -even better than the S class.

I completely agree with you on this, our C-Class really hurts the backside (leather seats, but no padding). Quite a few hire cars Ive had recently are the same, really uncomfortable, so no question, the ML is a very comfortable car for long distances.
