I currently have a vacuum operated retractable bonnet star fitted to my 190e. The problem is the chap I'm selling the car to wants me to leave it fitted rather than have the original item in place. Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement? I really do need another as unfortunately I do not have the luxury of a garage to park my "new" car in at the moment.

Will do Spike. The last one cost me 250 Dutch Guilders, but that was half price! Still, it's almost worth it for the novelty value.

Do you need to make a larger hole in the bonnet for the badge to pass thru??

Yes, the one I currently have on my 190 was considered to be suitable for fitment to 123, 124 and 201 series cars. It wouldnt be suitable for the late model 124 series though as they had the badge fitted into the bonnet rather than into the chrome over the grille. Basically you have to file a slot either side of the existing hole in the chrome, then fit a guide block on to the out side and the mechanism inside and plumb that into the central locking vacuum system.
