Wheres my oil filter?

Sorry for the lame question but i hear mercs put them in different places, i have a 230 4cyl and my back is to bad to go crawling about unnecasserily on the cold floor, could i be lucky and have one on top? is it hidden under a cover? I did try to get a haynes manula but they were out of stock, thanks guys

its an e230, after lifting the bonnet i now realise what a stupid question that was, sorry, doh!

You are not alone, I had to look hard, a few years ago, shame that there is not a tap to empty the sump.

Strangely enough the dealers dont drain oil any more, they suck it out of the dipstick. Dont necessarly agree with it but it saves time and they have had to many claims for drips on expensive driveways.

Yes I have heard of this method, I am pleased that my car will not be one of the suckers brigade.
As an engineer I always want to see whats in the last bit that comes out.

My handbook says the capacity is 5.5L, i took almost 7.5L out of the sump!!

go by whatever the dipstick reading gives.
i am sure its probabaly 7.5 litres, mercs have large capacity sumps, i guess thats one of the reasons the engines last so well

5.5L sounds about right but like said above check the dip stick. To much oil can cause as much damage as to little, it starts to suck it in and can hydraulic or start to run on the engine oil and just revs until it blows.
