I change my oil about every 5/6k. The car has done about 96k. I do about 4000 per year.

I realise that oils have come on a bit since the car was brought out, so I was wondering what sort of thing I ought to be going for in the future ?

I currently use a mid range/price 10-40 stuff at the moment.

cheers

Try and get some oil that meets the 229 spec, others will answer

Firm believer in fully synthetic here. You will be able to double your intervals.

thanks people,

Opie has also suggested a 5w-40 (no 229 mentioned).

I read on another thread, that some 229 oils need a different filter,,,,, how would I know which spacific filter is for a specific oil ?

If buying 'on-line' - without looking at specific tubs of oil - should I be able to tell which are 229 spec ?

-----::-----

I got into the habit of changing oil at 6k on my good old 123 TE model which I had for over 20 years.

I thought that my 5/6k changes may be a bit of overkill,,,, as my mileage is pretty low,,,, but after reading Oilmans stuff,,, i'd better stick at it,,,, it works out at about every 15months or so.

If I do go for fully synthetic, is it taken "as read" that I just double the change periods,,,, in my case about every 10/12k ?

Am about ready to change now, so am anxious to get it right.

thanks again
