Hello

I'm not sure what sort of oil I should be using. The manual just recommends 10W-40 or 15W-50 - doesn't specify synthetic or not. It refers to Service Product Sheets 226.5, 227.5. I don't know what these are.

Hi Rob, the old tales when fully synthetic oil first came out were that if the engine is burning oil, then do not waste your money on it, but MBs hardly ever burn oil, even after several 100k. Why not use a fully synthetic say a 10-30 and that should be fine. The 119 engine in your car should go fine on that and you should go say 12k miles before changing it.

There is no exact data for your engine, but I would have said that if it meets 229-1 then that will be fine

Hi Rob, Think with a thin oil like the 10W/30 you might experience a bit of tappet noise on start up if the engine has done a fair mileage. I always used a 15w/50 to counteract this .
