hi guys

sorry for all the questions (still trying to learn)
ive seen a couple of really nice E63 with the 6.2 N/A engine, in both w211 and w212 form, i do really like the w211 shape i think the lines look so clean on it compared to the later ones.
which years had the head bolt issues and what sort of cost to put right?
regards
matt

Try and find out what the engine number is. Get the Vin# and put it into this website which will give you the info you need.

The engines that were affected are prior to engine # 060658 although I have read later engines have fallen foul of corroded head bolts.

If you have anM156 and the coolant mysteriously leaks, suspect head bolt failure and an expensive repair. I understand it's a £2k+ repair.
As time has gone on, if the fault was going to happen it probably would have occurred already. But you still hear of it happening.
You can, if you have the earlier engine take preventative action and renew the bolts one by one without taking the heads off and all the expense and time incurred replacing head gaskets etc.
MSL Performance in Birmingham have done both preventative work and full repair work.

If your budget allows, go for the W212 over the W211.
I have had both (W211 E55 and W212 E63) and the W212 is a big step up in interior and looks more up to date externally. All IMO of course.
(Forget the 6.2, go for the Biturbo!)

It's nice to learn about another brand to be fair, I've always been vauxhall mad (90's & 2000's) and Japanese 2010 onwards.
Now I'm a little older and fatter I need some comfort to go with the performance, the subaru was about as comfortable as a swift kick to the 2 veggies :(
