Hi there,

I finally got the head for my 1988 W124 200T back, with new valves seated. I reassembled the engine, with all the approppriate new gaskets etc. The one bit I was unsure of though was the Timing Chain Tensioner. When I reassembled it, the spring seemed to push the plunger into the Tensioner body quite far.
I haven't driven the car since, but have started it - there was a whine - a bit like a power steering pump whine - that wasn't there before. Is this just because it takes a while for things to bed in? Or do I need to do some disassembly?

Thanks very much in advance for your help!

Smart + others :)
Did you reset the tensioner as its a one way operation. if you didnt it can snap the chain or a camshaft. I take it, its a 102 engine?

I think it is, I'm no expert though! When I removed the tensioner it came out in one piece when I undid the cover nut. Before I replaced it I did dismantle and inspect it, before putting the plunger into the body with the spring behind it. I'm not sure how to re-set it , as when I put the cover nut back on it seemed to push the plunger right in :???:

It looks very similar, I'll try the procedure again how he describes it.

Thanks very much for your help
