I’ve noticed today that my Benz is whining a little bit when the engine is under load between 16-2000rpm. It’s not the box I’ve checked the oil and had the box sat in neutral and done a rev test and the whining starts at around 16-2000. Just wondering does anyone have any pointers or could I be stalking a mind ghost.

My next port of call would be to look at turbo seals and turbo fins

TIA

Before doing that remove the auxiliary belt and see if the whine goes away.

Doesn’t sound like a belt whine though from what I can hear it sounds more like the whine you get when your box is in reverse and your backing up a bit quick. I mean I’ll try it like see if it is that. Do you think the belt is on its way out?

To be fair my cars experience a whining sound, but only when the Mrs is in the front passenger seat!!

It'll narrow it down to what's driven by the belt. It could be the belt tensioner.

belt tensioner, alt bearing ,ac pulley bearing ,if ac fitted ,water pump bearing and whatever else is driven by that belt ,if the noise goes spin all the driven bearings, pulleys by hand ,if there is a bad one it should be easy enough to spot noisy or loose bearings
