Hi all.

I've noticed a rough whine that changes pitch as the revs increase. The noise is still there in park so it's not the gearbox or a wheel bearing.

Is it likely to be a pulley bearing or the compressor for the supercharger?

Only way to find out is to disconnect the drive belts and see if noise disappears.

Have you tried turning the air conditioning off the compressors tend to whine if they are dry and haven’t been serviced?

Is it easy to get the belt back in place after?

There's one tensioner to loosen right?

Are there any 'how to' pages in the forum?

The noise is there when the Aircon is off. It had a new compressor in 2010.

Hopefully it's not the bearing on the alternator either.

I normally find a whine present from the front left seat area that is independent of engine speed or ancillaries engaged…

Hi. I think the noise is coming from the thing that's above the alternator. Not sure if it's a power steering pump or air conditioning compressor.

The alternator looks like a hell of a job to remove so I'm glad it's not that.

I sometimes use a giant screwdriver (the type that has the metal running right through the handle)

I've just ordered one to make sure where the noise is coming from, after checking the cost of a new power steering pump

It's not low on fluid so it must be knackered. It will have to stay noisy until I get paid again

At least it looks like an straight forward job to replace it.

Got the stethoscope and the noise is coming from the power steering pump.

I'm just glad it's an easy to reach part

I have the same whine but it increases with the amount of throttle I apply

Hi all

The noise is getting worse but I thought I would try changing the fluid first

Is febi bilstein 21647 an OEM fluid for my car? I also read about an additive on a us website, is anyone aware of this?

I think I also read that a split in the air intake hose can cause noise, mine is mostly duck tape and is falling apart.
