hi all,
picked up the 'new' car yesterday, so far pleased with it - good mid range lift and probably as gutsy as the e240. one thing i have noticed is that on start up there is quite a loud whistle, i would assume from the turbo as it rises and falls as loud pedal pressed and eased off. it sounds as though there is a polis car behind you! so can anyone tell me whether this is usual or should i be taking it back to dealer. car has 42k on it and i havn't seen any posts here about turbo problems.
cheers

Two things strike me. First, that a C220cdi should blow an E240 into the dust and secondly, I've not heard any whistles on our 220cdi - I suspect you may have something slightly amiss.

I do recognise the whistle - it comes in as the revs rise from say 1-2k revs, and I think it is the turbo winding up. In my E, I can only hear it with the windows open though at slow speeds, so seems louder than normal

hi all,
update to post - car went into dealer today and the upshot is that the turbo is on the way out and is being replaced. hopefully this will also improve the fuel consumption as a tank to tank fill gave a result of 31mpg a good bit less than i was hoping as havn't been thrashing the car!
cheers
