My best friend for many years (and my best man) now sadly deceased was keen on naming his cars. He had a 2CV (well someone has to) that was green that he called that snot on account of its colour and it ran.
His other car was a V12 E type that was called blood clot because it was red and (often) didn't run.

My XK8 is called Christine, after Stephen King's book (and the movie) although I did all the building work on her....

I had a Renault 5 Gordini Turbo called "Winnie The Poo(h)" on account the reg was A483 POO :p

However, the current barge is called "Bismark" on account it is German and about 300 feet long, lol :D

My R320L CDI is called "The Beast"

Had it since 2009 and still not bored with it yet. Its not the prettiest car, looks like B class on steroids... ugly from the front, but side/rear view is fine... surprised no Xenons on my model, but it drives lovely for such a big car... great on motorways, according to computer have averaged 32.8mpg over 60000 miles...

I had one too. Should have been called an S Class Estate. More powerful than the contemporary LR Discovery models and much more economical. Cheaper too in the used market.

Sadly, the R Class was a well kept secret and has been discontinued. :(

My Clio 172 was called Fifi, as she was French and flightly. Haven't had a car I wanted to name til the Merc, for which my daughter suggested Ottoline. I thought well it's better than Brunhilde. :p

I don't normally give my cars a name but after last night I intend to change that. From now my E220 is to be known as "Jurgen" (After all, it's German and gives me great pleasure).

The names of my vehicles followed a theme for a while....
In order of naming:
Range Rover - Lurch (its what it did round corners).
Defender - Fester
FC101 GS - Morticia (was painted black)
Sankey Trailer - Thing

Then the theme went out the window...
FC 101 Ambulance - Mabel
Smart Roadster - 'The wheelie bin' (Grey and made from plastic)
500SL - Katy (from its number plate K***TEA)

Also had a Saab called 'The Slab', a Volvo T5 called Olaf (he did make me laugh he was so quick!) and an A8 called Herman (the German).

You have/ have had a Forward Control? Hee taking those things round roundabouts quickly is a bit like Russian roulette :D :D I can remember commandeering an old BFA once in Kineton camp and ragging it around (before the RSM spotted us and sent out death glares).

Variously:

Old Audi- Herman
New Audi: Fritz
Old Merc: Gunther
New Merc: Wolfgang (getting the German name thing? Daughter has named all of these).
Nissan: Gordon (cos he's a bit flash)
other Nissan: Tugster (he pulls things)

Yeah I had two (at the same time whats more).
One was an ambulance and the other a GS (pic below is before it went black).

The GS was superb. I fitted a modified exhaust to it and it sounded simply amazing. Also fitted an overdrive and it had the Nokken winch as well.
Did a day out on a farm with a bunch of mates and it showed the others the way through the mud as well!

The Ambulance was RAF spec and ex Gulf War 1. It was one of three assigned to a helicopter squadron. The story behind the markings goes that the base commander wanted to be able to tell them apart without having to call them on the radio. One was left as just the pale colour, one was painted with spots and mine was painter with stripes. I have a photo somewhere of the three of them side by side in the desert with the different paint schemes.
As seen there it had been repainted to refresh it (it was poorly when I bought it) and was fully original inside - even down to functional respirators and the bulk of the medical equipment.
Had a great weekend with it at a Pay and Play site in Bala in Wales a gew years back. We had 8 in the back as we drove it round the off road course. The kids just loved it.

Just out of curiosity... why? ;) You must have some decent spare time, either that or a lot of black nasty to keep them things going.

Black painted driveway too? :D

Was always a Land Rover fan so it was a (un?)natural progression to get one. I bought the ambulance first and had her repainted and sorted her out mechanically then found the GS for peanuts and couldn't say no.
The GS cost me £1200 and I fitted a new canvas, repaired her doors, repainted the load bay is urethane based paint, fitted LPG and modified the exhaust system as well as converting the ignition to 12v electronic instead of 24v points. Sold her 4 years ago having had a couple years use for £3500.
The ambulance I paid £4000 for and sold a 5 years later for £6000. In both cases I managed to turn a small profit and had a lot of fun in the process.

Have to say the seating position was a bit cramped... I'm 6'1" roughly and of a size that wouldn't look out of place in an All Black scrum.... Fuel consumption was horrific too. The Ambulance averaged 9-11mpg on a good run and the GS 15-18 mpg. On the day the GS photo was taken the average over the day 5 mpg......(including a 50 mile drive on motorways to and from the Lakes!)
That said - I do regret selling the GS....

That's why there's always a jerrycan or 4 strapped to the sides in old pictures of them on Ops or exercises. They do like a wee nip of the devil drink.

I'd say that you have an interesting definition of "fun" but then I'm doing something not a million miles away with my 215, so I know what you mean!

I'm still adamant about getting either a Ferret or something with tracks before I retire, there's a few years yet!

I always wanted a Stalwart.... but they like to drink more than a 747 on take off!

When I bought the GS I told the other half I'd bough an open top 4wd mid engined V8 car for summer.....

Haha! I bet it went down like a tramp on chips when you turned into the driveway in one of Solihull's finest!

Ah the Stolly. I did have the pleasure of seeing one sink in the Alvis water test bay once, the driver had been told "Now, do it slowly and you'll be fine". What he hadn't been told was, "make sure your fuel tank is almost empty" as the extra weight of 40-odd gallons of fuel would tilt the balance against the already-precarious buoyancy margin the Stolly has.

Never seen a roof hatch open so fast!!!!

Then there was a time- no duff- that one pi$$ed off squaddy tried to swim the Channel in one- starting in Helle.

nothing wrong with an old land rover. yes theyre not exactly fast, (mountains are formed faster) comfortable or great handling, but they have 1 thing new cars lack. character.

LWB County station wagon (so i have a row of forward facing rear seats) with overdrive and V8 engine would be in my 'dream garage' with a big lottery win!

I've named my last SL63 and my current CL65 both George in honour and respect of the man they try to drink petrol as fast as he drank booze.

We've only had one name for a car, it was a Dodge, we called it "Arfur" after Arthur Daley who was Dodgy! We're thinking of calling our W213 "Elvis" as it's big, white and the last 3 letters of the reg are "HUH".
