Hi, I have 2006 E 280cdi and a few weeks ago I had to have a new inlet port shut off motor fitted. Ever since this work I have a loud whooshing noise coming from the engine on acceleration. This sometimes accompanied by black smoke from the exhaust. I've also noted that fuel economy has dropped. My mechanic was unable to find any fault codes or obvious leaks following a smoke test. Anyone any suggestions/ideas what could be causing this. Cheers.

Wud have said boost pipe but if Yr mech has ruled that out. No real ideas then boost leaks can be hard to find. I once spent 2 days finding one one on an a40 volvo turned out a crack in inlet manifold well hidden under manifold well out of sight, it only opened up under boost, whistled well and lost all loaded up top end boost. I burned my hand a fair bit rummaging around out of sight while a mated was stalling out the trans creating plenty of heat. In Yr case is gasket or seal compromised on inlet port shut off?

Would throw up an error code - running lean.
Did you see the smoke test and the mechanic scan for DTC.

Think you have been advised wrongly. Many diesels don't even have throttle butterflys and ingest every bit of air available. The throttle only controls the amount of fuel. A boost leak only leaks air, not fuel thus reducing the air intake for the given amount of fuel....runs too rich.
