Why did you chose the model you bought? Not engine size, car model.

I bought the SL55 for the economy and looks. Never regretted it.

Also I was bored of 911s, and fancied something a little less track focussed.

John, you imported this?

Yes,
Contacted a European dealer, ordered the vehicle I wanted, built to UK spec. The very first time this vehicle was registered, is here in the UK in our name.

Nice to hear about your R230. Malcolm attended at least one of the GTG's we held at my house. He certainly looked after his SL and nice to hear you bought it.

W166 GLE350AMG Line 3.0 2017. BMW Z3 2.8 1998.
I need a tug with sufficient kerb weight to tow a large caravan, so bought the W166 GLE 350. In brilliant blue with the black / porcelain interior. V6 3l diseasel with 9g box, 4wd, airmatic, Premium Plus and factory fit electric towbar.

My previous W221 S350L was just about heavy enough, but the W222 was too light to tow with unfortunately. Had it 4.5 years.

The 2nd W211, E270 was a super car that I had for 8 years.

The 1st W211 E220 was my first foray into MB ownership. I went off on my own in business and decided I'd have a nice car after eons of rep mobiles that were just a tool to do a job that I paid tax on, so mostly blue, front fog lights and a steering wheel. Mega miles with penalties on each one as leased, finance directors need really understand what business created in companies by those out on site. That's your position, thats the car you can have. Had loads of co cars over the years.

I've loved Mercs for most of my adult life but it took many years before l got my first 202. I've had 7 Mercs in total including 4 202's. My 209 coupe is a nice car, always loved the 2 door pillar less coupes, but my pride and joy is a more or less mint R170 SLK230 and l simply adore driving it top down in the summer.

An old B-Class.
Had a R172 SLK350 in Australia and sold it when we moved back to the UK. Was looking for a SLK55 here and my wife said it was too small (she’d always complained about the lack of space for her handbag and coat in the SLK). I showed her a BMW 6 series convertible, a Jaguar F Type and a MB SL. Happily she also preferred the SL to the others. Had it 4.5 years now and still love it.

After owning a couple of W210 E280's, I wanted a V8, and a quick one.
2013 saw me buy my silver E55 which I kept for just over 6 years before getting my current W212 E63 Biturbo.

I lusted after a facelift E63 after meeting the owner of a lovely palladium E63 at an MSL GTG back in 2014. I knew I'd get one one day, when they came into my budget. Man maths decided it was time to get one of my own a couple of years ago, and its been a fantastic car. Slightly modified, its just what I wanted and I have no plans to sell in the near future. The only car that may make me change my mind is a W213 E63s 4matic when they drop below £40k.

Time to sort another one out then…;)

I could sell mine and make some decent money, but when its just how I want it,and all the hassle that goes with buying and selling cars I can't be ar$ed.

Get in there Russ. You know you want a quick estate.
I’ve a 110 200tdi, not much can keep up with that…;)

(Although it currently needs a new engine … as the cam gear came off the cam shaft…):(

I really liked the 190E’s when they came out, though was never in a position to buy one at the time. Thought that the later R129’s where lovely too, but a new one cost more than my house.
Roll on a few years and was looking for a nice toy in addition to to my old Sierra 2.8 4x4 estate.

Eventually found a really nice four year old Clk,W208, quartz blue, 320 cabriolet with the AMG kit. Pretty soon, my wife claimed it as hers, after all I did have an estate (she had a nice VW Bora, 2.0 sport but…)

back in need of a toy, the 129’s where now in my price range so bought an azurite blue SL500 and gave my Ford away to a neighbour before my wife got home..

five years on and life, work changed and found myself in need of an estate again so found my current E class, S211

Almost identical story to yours but without the speeding points/bans.

I know exactly where you are coming from with the Vogue, mine was the V8, luxurious but at the end of the day a point and steer barge that cost me a new gearbox!

The only way to come close on comfort was an S class and as my kids have flown that permitted the SL R231.

I had tasted the silky 8 pot engine and addiction set in, nearly went for an SL63 but a quick read on here about ABC and carbon fibre disc costs worried me (future retirement), looked up the specs on the SL500 V SL63 and felt the 0.1 sec to 60 difference and badge didn't warrant the price, hence the current car. Best decision as (touch wood) I have had 0 running costs above servicing and consumables, insurance under £300 and £25 month road tax!

I cannot find a suitable replacement/upgrade short of a Ferrari California (convertible a must) so suspect that may end up being the only thing to tempt me away but my kids will need to expand our business first and keep me in retirement;-).

One of many "undocumented" ones :(
You should know by now that Land Rovers have many undocumented features and just when you think you've found the last they'll supply you a new one......
